​​​​​​​The UK's leading new musical theatre company for young people 11-21 years old has announced their 2023 season of Easter & Summer performances led by new Chief Executive and Creative Director Emily Gray, who has ensured the voices and ideas of BYMT's Young Company Panel are at the heart of the programme choices. This new season is filled with brand new musicals, returning BYMT favourites, and dance led work.

The Swami John Reis Band will be making their first-ever appearances on select California dates this August. Touring in support of Ride The Wild Night, Reis’ recently released debut album on Swami Records, the run will begin on Friday, August 5 in Sacramento, CA and culminate in an appearance at The Casbah in San Diego, CA on Tuesday, August 9.

Ride The Wild Night is neither completely similar nor dissimilar to Reis’ previous bands (Hot Snakes, Night Marchers, The Sultans, Rocket From The Crypt, Drive Like Jehu), yet the sound is immediately familiar and assuring. The music is an amalgam of Sixties folk-punk, Seventies punk-punk and pre-Vietnam War rock ’n’ roll.

Pan Underground will produce RED BIKE by Caridad Svich, as part of a multi-site installation, premiering first in Anacostia on October 24, followed by The Parks at Walter Reed on November 6.

woolgatherings is returning this fall with a series of performances designed for an audience of one. Conceived and written by Pete Danelski and Jordan Clark Halsey, woolgatherings is an investigation into ritualized space, the nature of making connections, and the power of naming ghosts.

The Performance Interface Lab was founded in late March 2020 in response to the closure of traditional theatrical venues from the COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing social distancing measures. Founders decided that rather than respond to a paradigm shift after it had occurred, they wanted to be at the forefront testing out how we'd need to adapt.

Today, The Frights released their fourth studio album, Everything Seems Like Yesterday and announced a spring U.S. headline tour. Produced by bassist Richard Dotson, written and performed by vocalist and guitarist Mikey Carnevale with some sonic assistance from Dotson, it is the band's most emotionally direct body of work to date. Vinyl and CD of the album is available for pre-order via the band's website and will be in stores everywhere on March 13.

Shakespeare's Richard III has been no stranger to DC theatre goers this season. In true Synetic fashion, their current production turns a well known tale on its...crown.

A movement-driven, cyber-punk Richard III will run May 15 through June 16, 2019 at Synetic Theater at 1800 S. Bell St in Crystal City. From the second we step through the doors of Anacostia Playhouse, we're asked to join the world of Dominique Morisseau's Blood at the Root - not just as observers but participants. Every corner of the lobby has been decked out like the hallways of a high school - in this case, Cedar High, located somewhere north of New Orleans. We glance upward and see a banner prominently featuring their mascot, the Pelican. There's a bulletin board littered with flyers and posters - Keep Calm and Wear Your Uniform. And just next to the entrance of the theater is a pair of lockers covered with real-life photographs of the young cast in their natural habitats - school, church, family reunions, summer camp. There's a lot to explore.

Playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins seems like a man who likes to make theatre audiences uncomfortable, and make them question their most basic reactions. Rhode Islanders will be familiar with his play Appropriate, which was at Trinity Rep in 2016, and may have left many scratching their heads in a 'what did I just watch?' way. GLORIA, playing through December 16 at the Gamm is a similar head scratcher, but is remarkably well-executed with a strong cast and excellent direction. The mental gymnastics this play asks of the audience are confounding, and there are plenty of moments where the script feels manipulative, but the end result is satisfyingly perplexing in a way that feels new.

The Keegan Theatre announces the cast and creative team for the delightful children's classic, THE ELVES AND THE SHOEMAKER, written by Kristin Walter. A Keegan PLAY-RAH-KA family production, THE ELVES AND THE SHOEMAKER runs December 22- 30, 2018, at the Andrew Keegan Theatre in Washington, DC. With the perfect combination of Synetic Theater veterans and first-timers, Paata Tsikurishvili is stacking the deck with his one-of-a-kind production of Washington Irving's Sleepy Hollow. Scott Turner will haunt the stage as the Headless Horseman tumbling and tussling with Vato Tsikurishvili's physically adept Ichabod Crane. Jesse McLean and Jordan Clark Halsey will make their Synetic Theater debuts as the beautiful Katrina Van Tassel and Crane's rival Brom, respectively. Synetic regulars Thomas Beheler (Van Tassel) and Justin Bell (Van Ripper) will return for this hauntingly beautiful Fall spectacle, and are joined by several Synetic alums and new-comers to fill out the cast in the ever-important and varied Ensemble roles.
