Such astonishing voices! Winter Opera, in St. Louis, has been offering splendid singers for 15 seasons now. But I've never heard more brilliant voices than those flourished by the cast in Winter Opera's latest production, Giacomo Puccini's MADAMA BUTTERFLY. These are of truly Olympian quality.

Cio-Cio-San, a captivating geisha in Nagasaki, marries B. F. Pinkerton, an American naval lieutenant. For him, it's a lark, a diversion before he marries a 'real' American wife. For her, it's a life-altering commitment that's briefly blissful, then disastrous: her family renounces her and Pinkerton leaves Japan. When he returns a few years later, her joy evaporates and catastrophe ensues when his true intentions are revealed.

Elizabeth Caballero's captivating performance as the tragic romantic heroine Cio Cio San, the titular lead of Puccini's classic opera Madame Butterfly, is so breathtakingly, so exquisitely heartbreaking that she alone is enough to make the 2019-20 season opening production from Nashville Opera a triumph, but director John Hoomes surrounds her with a cast of equally impressive singers who bring the romantic tragedy to life with such vigor and style that any of them might serve as reason enough for audiences to take note.

Soprano Amanda Palmeiro, now performing the title role at English language performances of Butterfly for the InSeries, deserves an opera career as sensational as her voice. Already a prize-winner at Met auditions, she'll perform Papagena with the Washington National Opera's Domingo Cafritz Young Artists program at the Kennedy Center in November.

Pacific Symphony continues its semi-staged operatic series with Puccini's poignant opera, “Madame Butterfly,” which tells the story of a young naïve Japanese geisha who believes that her love for a handsome American naval officer is eternal. With its lush score and heartbreaking arias, it is a timeless tale that will stir your emotions. Eric Einhorn is once again the stage director, returning after his masterful work on “Tosca” and “Turnadot.” Longtime artistic partner Pacific Chorale, led by Artistic Director Robert Istad, will join the Symphony on stage again as well, after their last appearance in a Symphony opera with 2018's “The Magic Flute.” Soprano Yunah Lee will be performing the lead role of Cio-Cio-San, followed by tenor John Pickle's performance as Lieutenant B.F. Pinkerton. Mezzo-soprano Sabina Kim and baritone Luis Ledesma both appear to perform the roles of Suzuki and Sharpless, respectively.

The KL City Opera presents MADAMA BUTTERFLY as part of its 2018 season, running from Nov. 22 to Nov. 25.

For such a highly renowned opera such as Madama Butterfly numerous productions have been presented in the past century all around the world, and rightfully so, but with the new exquisite Israeli-Italian production, under the innovative and fresh direction of Keita Asari, it's clear that there's always room for more productions such as this.

The beloved opera 'Madama Butterfly' by Giacomo Puccini will be presented in Israel in a new production originally created for the La Scala Opera House in Milan. The opera will be conducted by the musical director of the Israeli Opera Daniel Oren. The great Japanese director Keita Asari will present in this production a special take on the opera, influenced by the Japanese culture as opposed to this opera's many productions that offer a western look on the Japanese culture.

Due to an injury sustained in a bicycle accident, Nicola Daley reluctantly has to pull out of Ramesh Meyyappan's BUTTERFLY, which is receiving its NYC premiere at Brits Off Broadway at 59E59 Theaters. Naomi Livingstone (Aaron Sorkin's The Farnsworth Invention at Sydney's New Theatre) will step into the role for the Brits Off Broadway run.

San Francisco Opera General Director David Gockley and Music Director Nicola Luisotti today announced the Company's 2016–17 Season repertory and roster of international guest artists, conductors and creative teams scheduled to appear at the War Memorial Opera House, as well as initial programming for SF Opera Lab 2017 presentations at the Diane B.
