Desert Ensemble Theater has released individual tickets for its 13th season and its third year in residence at the Palm Springs Cultural Center.
Desert Theatreworks has done a fabulous job with its final presentation of the season, THE LAST FIVE YEARS, a one act, two-character, mostly sung-through musical by Jason Robert Brown. Mr. Brown's take on the disintegration of a marriage, which unfolds before the audience's eyes and ears in eclectic musical styles, is emotionally powerful. The music, performed live by a keyboard and violin, and the superb on-stage performances in the production, help make this one of the most memorable shows I've seen.
Desert Ensemble Theatre has done it again with its world premiere production of Rich Rubin's KAFKA's JOKE: It has put on a brilliantly acted theatrical experience that cause audiences to laugh, to feel the craziness of the situations that the characters face, and to keep thinking about the play long after it has ended. In short, director Jerome Elliott Moskowitz has come up with DET's latest must-see production.
There is a great deal of enthusiastic singing and dancing by a large, energetic cast in Desert Theatreworks' (DTW's) production of WHITE CHRISTMAS, with book by David Ives and Paul Blake, and songs and lyrics by Irving Berlin. Daniela Ryan directed this production, which features two choreographers - Stacy Casaluci-Grenrock, assisted by teenaged veteran DTW member Violet Feath (who also serves as dance captain) for the tap numbers.
How can eight murders onstage bring an audience to laughter that almost raises the roof? I suggest you get to Desert Theatreworks' production of A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder to find out for yourself! Great music, acting, directing and sets - this show has it all.
Desert Ensemble Theatre is currently presenting AJ Clauss's SALTY. The production is well worth seeing; the play forces people to think about major issues and the director and ensemble cast are fabulous. Although there are many funny and many sweet moments, be forewarned: the overall tone is sad and pessimistic.
I give the Desert Rose Playhouse kudos for its fantastic production of Richard O'Brien's bloody cult classic, THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW. Buy tickets before the run sells out, as it deserves to do.
Live theatre returns to the Coachella Valley with the Desert Rose Playhouse's THE MISS FIRECRACKER CONTEST, in Desert Rose's new Palm Springs venue. The production is worth seeing, with fine acting, direction, and visual design.
