When former Secret Service agent turned bodyguard, Frank Farmer, is hired to protect superstar Rachel Marron from an unknown stalker, each expects to be in charge; what they don't expect is to fall in love. 'Kinky Boots' overcomes a formulaic, predictable storyline with energetic performances and Cyndi Lauper's outstanding score. The national tour features outstanding work from its trio of stars: Lance Bordelon as frustrated shoe factory owner Charlie Price, Jos N. Banks as enterprising drag queen Lola, and Sydney Patrick as spitfire factory worker Lauren. The show plays at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza though Sunday, February 25.

For the most part, the brief Orange County return of the Tony Award-winning musical smash KINKY BOOTS---which continues its quick week-long stop at Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa through February 11---pretty much preserves its hard-to-escape fabulousness. Its current incarnation as a non-Equity bus-and-truck tour---now presented by Troika Entertainment, but retains many of the original's main elements---only feels slightly different from previous productions you've likely seen. The musical's endearing narrative, its vibrant main characters, and the ear-candy confections concocted by pop superstar Cyndi Lauper all combine to showcase a fun and genuinely lovable musical that celebrates living one's authentic self… triumphantly.

Kinky Boots struts it's stuff right into Little Rock. The 2013 Tony winner for Best musical is a joyous, funny and timely show that entertains even the straightest of laces. It's amazing how much more important the message of the show seems right now.

Last night at The Town Hall, in honor of the 10th Anniversary of the Broadway Rising Stars Concert Series (which features the brightest talent selected from some of the nation's finest theatrical institutions), for the very first time, previous Rising Stars from the last nine years returned to join the show.

The York Theatre Company presents new addition to its educational arm: Bespoke Musicals, a program that pairs teams of emerging writers, chosen by The York Theatre Company, with companies of students from musical theatre college training programs. For its maiden voyage, The York will be collaborating with Marymount Manhattan College.
