Court Theatre has revealed the cast for 'Antigone,' a timely masterwork by Sophocles. Directed by Gabrielle Randle-Bent and featuring Nicholas Rudall's translation, this production concludes Court Theatre's Oedipus Trilogy.

After a thirty-year tenure at Court Theatre, the professional theatre of the University of Chicago, Charles Newell has decided to transition out of his role as Marilyn F. Vitale Artistic Director in June 2024.

Theatres and arts organizations are back to producing seasons in the way that we were used to before the pandemic. However, the audience hasn’t returned in the same way. In multiple articles in this week's newsletter, we examine the question from a few different angles - where has the audience gone, and how do producing organizations get them back?

As Associate Artistic Director, Randle-Bent will work closely with Newell and other members of the artistic team. She will advise in season planning, manage the development of new work, and - as a part of Court theatre’s new engagement division - help set and articulate strategies for engagement with the many communities Court serves.

For the 68th season, Court Theatre will share a beloved, sharp-witted classic comedy; a drama set in Apartheid-era South Africa that speaks directly to our moment; an award-winning Caryl Churchill play about the lives of women farm laborers in 1970s England; and a celebratory, exuberant musical that re-imagines the story of Oedipus.
