As Birmingham and the West Midlands get ready for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, the Birmingham 2022 Festival is hosting a series of performances, films and visual arts installations all inspired by sport. 

SCHTICK A POLE IN IT, New York City's only comedy and pole dancing show has announced they'll be expanding their performance schedule to four shows a month with an open-ended run at Drom (85 Avenue A) in the East Village.

The story, music and delivery, takes one by surprise settling right into the middle of the heart and morphing raw emotion through the veins; simply 'taking over'. The daily norms of behaviour evaporated and I was 'in' the show. I was transported to a place of primal emotion that pushes past control to a place earthed in the rawness of connection and love. The very essence of human emotion, need and desire juxtaposed against 'how it should be' is brought to the fore in a beautiful simplicity. Jesse Peach's vision of simplicity and allowing the emotion to be 'enough' had to be cleverly crafted. Illumination of humanity within simplicity hard to acheive and he's done just that.

Fountain Hills Youth Theater announces the first cast, entirely aged 11 and under, performing in Disney Winnie the Pooh Kids. Welcome to the Hundred Acre Wood, where Winnie the Pooh is, once again, in search of honey. Along the way, he meets his pals Tigger, Piglet, Rabbit and Owl, but soon discovers that Christopher Robin has been captured by the mysterious Backson! As they prepare for a rescue operation, the animals learn about teamwork, friendship and sharing snacks. This production is our yearly YABOY (Young Actors Benefiting Other Youth) production, focusing on reading, literacy and communication, and is presented in partnership with the Fountain Hills Library Association.

Gary J. Crawford, the author behind 'Immaculate Deception,' is set to make a huge splash in the publishing world with his comeback novel titled Double Tap, an action-packed tale of treachery and murder that picks up where the dauntless Sam 'Mac' McCloud left off in the previous novel. With an unrelated chain of mystery deaths laid in front of him, he must act without delay to identify the man behind the killings-a deed easier said than done without leads to begin with. Mystery and crime enthusiasts will revel in this imposing work of fiction as the male protagonist finds himself once more in troubled waters with barely a way out.

This June Steppenwolf Theatre Company will present the second annual Next Up: three productions presented in rotating repertory, June 5 - 24, 2012 in The Steppenwolf Garage (1624 N Halsted St). Next Up is presented in collaboration with Northwestern University's MFA programs in Direction and Design, and features the work of graduates of those programs with casts of professional Chicago actors: Life and Limbby Keith Reddin, directed by Emily Campbell; South of Settling by Emily Schwend, directed by Adam Goldstein; and The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams, directed by Laley Lippard. The directors and designers make their Steppenwolf debut under the mentorship of Steppenwolf staff and artists, including ensemble member Anna D. Shapiro and scenic designer Todd Rosenthal-both members of the Northwestern faculty-as well as Steppenwolf Associate Artistic Director Erica Daniels.

Steppenwolf Theatre Company Artistic Director Martha Lavey announced today the 2012/13 Subscription Season, including a Steppenwolf-commissioned world premiere and the work of fifteen ensemble members. The season begins in Steppenwolf's Downstairs Theatre with David Lindsay-Abaire's Good People, directed by ensemble member K. Todd Freeman. Up next, ensemble member Anna D. Shapiro directs The Motherf**ker with the Hat by Stephen Adly Guirgis. In the Upstairs Theatre, ensemble member Austin Pendleton directs The Birthday Party by Harold Pinter. In April 2013, ensemble member Tina Landau directs the Steppenwolf-commissioned world premiere of Head of Passes by ensemble member Tarell Alvin McCraney, their first collaboration since the widely-praised The Brother/Sister Plays (2010). The season concludes with Belleville by Amy Herzog, directed by Anne Kauffmann.
