Terry Johnson's stage adaptation of The Graduate, based on the novel and the iconic 1967 film, is a bitterly hilarious dark comedy, full of rapid fire dialogue between fascinating and horrifying characters. This play explores family dysfunction, parental expectations, crumbling marriages, and the naive, yet disillusioned, dichotomy of youth, against the shiny backdrop of affluent Southern California in the 1960s.

Bay Street Theater & Sag Harbor Center for the Arts is pleased to announce MY LIFE: THE MUSICAL, APRIL SCHOOL VACATION THEATER CAMP, April 25 - 29 at Bay Street Theater. The camp is for ages 8-12 and runs 9 am to 3 pm each day of the week-long camp. The camps will be taught by Bethany Dellapolla. When one thinks of 'The Graduate', it is the iconic 1967 movie which catapulted Dustin Hoffman into mainstream American culture and solidified both his and Anne Bancroft's positions as some of the greatest performances of the silver screen. While the 2002 Broadway production saw brilliant performances by Jason Biggs and Kathleen Turner giving the stage version equal visions of acting strengths to its audiences.

THE GRADUATE is an iconic American film that was a touchstone for an entire generation. It's a coming of age story about Benjamin Braddock's attempt to find his place in the adult world of the sixties. Anyone staging it lives in the shadow of the 1967 film and those indelible images and sounds. To be honest, I went in thinking that I would be hard pressed to think of a cinema piece that cried out less for a stage adaptation than this particular story. However, personally being long removed from both Charles Webb's 1963 novel and the film by Mike Nichols, I found that this piece actually stands on its own. It is quite different from both the novel and the film; but is, in and of itself, an entertaining evening.

Stages Repertory Theatre has a witty ensemble cast that creates clever moments with comedic lines, melodramatic scenes, and outlandish interaction with the audience, not to mention the chemistry. The show and the cast combine to make a fun night at the theatre.
