A Musical Tribute for Veteran's Day to be Hosted by New Musicals Inc


On Veterans’ Day - November 11 - at 7pm, New Musicals Inc is hosting a special online concert to help celebrate the day and pay respect to veterans around the world. The free concert will feature excerpts from the musical webseries, “So Proudly We Hailed” which honors veterans by dramatizing and musicalizing their story in their own words.

CASA 0101 Theater and Tía Chucha's Centro Cultural & Bookstore will extend their World Premiere production of the new play, ALWAYS RUNNING, based on the groundbreaking award-winning memoir written by Los Angeles Poet Laureate Luis J. Rodríguez, adapted for the stage by Luis J. Rodríguez and Hector Rodriguez, directed by Hector Rodriguez, starring Rufino Romero as Luis J. Rodríguez, leading a cast of 16 rotating actors playing 32 roles.

CASA 0101 Theater and Tía Chucha's Centro Cultural & Bookstore will present the World Premiere of ALWAYS RUNNING, based on the groundbreaking memoir written by Luis J. Rodriguez, adapted for the stage by Luis J. Rodriguez and Hector Rodriguez, directed by Hector Rodriguez, starring Rufino Romero as Luis J. Rodriguez, leading a cast of 11 actors playing 31 roles.  The play will be presented for a Six-Week Run on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 5:00 p.m. at CASA 0101 Theater, 2102 East First Street (at St. Louis Street), Boyle Heights, CA  90033, August 31 a?" October 20, 2019.  Opening Night is Saturday, August 31, 2019 at 8:00 p.m.  Discounted Previews will be presented on Thursday and Friday, August 29 and 30, 2019 at 8:00 p.m.  Special Saturday Matinees will be given on September 7, 14 and 21, 2019 at 3:00 p.m.  There will be no performances September 27, 28 and 29, 2019.

ASK A BLACK WOMAN- Hit Digital Series Premiers at Hollywood Fringe Festival


What happens when a Black Woman specifically welcomes people of different races to ask her any question they want, on the streets of Los Angeles? Shanara did this on her "Ask A Black Woman" YouTube and podcast series for the past two years. In this solo show, Shanara takes you one helluva ride, responding to some of the questions people asked, via reenactments and spoken word. Be open to this raw account from a Black Woman's perspective. Ask A Black Woman infuses Shanara's mastery of spoken word with dramatization, to articulate her points of view. Shanara imparts the raw and seemingly taboo parts of her life, to illustrate how she has arrived at her unique perspectives.

Garry Marshall Theatre is proud to present Josefina Lopez's coming of age comedy "Real Women Have Curves" as the first production opening its second season. This new production of the iconic Latina story that inspired the Sundance award-winning film of the same name, is set in present day and features script updates that tackle issues women face today, making it as relevant now as it was when first written in 1988. The production runs from Oct. 12 through Nov. 18.

Dan Guerrero Honored With CASA 0101 Theater Brown & Out Inspiration Award


Dan Guerrero, the award-winning producer, director, writer and actor was honored for his activism and support of the LBGTQ+ community with the first ever CASA 0101 Theater Brown & Out Inspiration Award prior to Opening Night performance of CASA 0101 Theater's "Brown & Out IV" Play Festival celebrating the LGBTQ+ Latinexperience on Friday, February 9, 2018. The award was presented by Corky Dominguez, a director, writer and producer of "Brown & Out IV." Edward Padilla, President of CASA 0101 Theater, read a Certificate of Recognition from Assemblymember Miguel Santiago, 53rd District of Los Angeles, for Dan Guerrero and then presented it to him on behalf of the Assemblymember.

Fundraising Campaign Launched To Save CASA 0101 Theater


Josefina Lopez, Founding Artistic Director of CASA 0101 Theater in Boyle Heights, CA announced today that CASA 0101 Theater is in danger of closing its doors. Lopez said, "I opened CASA over 15 years ago. I started CASA to create opportunities for actors and writers and artists. This is the kind of place that I wanted when I was a little girl. I thought this would be my way of giving back to my community in Boyle Heights. But, unfortunately we are on the brink of closing down because we can't pay our rent, so we need your financial support. If you believe in what were are doing, please support us now."

?CASA 0101 Theater will present a Panel Discussion on the subject of physical abuse following the 5:00 p.m. Matinee performance of the play DRUNK GIRL on Sunday, October 11, 2015 on the Main Stage of the CASA 0101 Theater, 2102 East First Street (at St. Louis Street), Boyle Heights, CA 90033.  Discussion Panelists with include select members of the cast and production team of DRUNK GIRL, along with representatives from the Survivor's Network of Those Abused by Priests, Alcoholics Anonymous and the East Los Angeles Women's Center.

Telemundo Begins Production on LOS MISERABLES


Telemundo Studios has announced the start of filming of 'Los Miserables,' starring Aracely Arambula, Erik Hayser, Aylin Mujica and Aaron Diaz. Set in modern times, 'Los Miserables' is a melodrama about the life of an innocent woman hounded by the law who must use all her cunning to fight back, hide and prove her integrity to her pursuer, who is also the man she loves. Written by Valentina Párraga ('La Patrona') and filmed entirely in Mexico, the story is inspired by the epic drama by French novelist Victor Hugo, a leading figure in romantic literature.

Casa 0101 Theatre Previews 'Story Theatre' Programs in LA, 5/3 & 4


Casa 0101 will celebrate the West Coast Premiere of PIE (Projects In Education) as two "preview" performances of its "Story Theatre" Program for Teachers, Community Leaders, PTA/PTO reps and of course children and families. These preview performances will be free and reservations are necessary. They will be held at 1:00PM on Friday, May 3rd and 7:00PM on Saturday, May 4th at Little Casa 0101 Theater in Boyle Heights.

PIE Makes West Coast Debut in May


PIE (Projects In Education) had its premiere in New York City's Central Park in the summer of 1991. The programming, created by Patrick Riviere (then Artistic Director of The Emerging Artists Project, Inc.) would go on to critical acclaim and much success in the New York Tri-State area and also Chicago, Illinois. Since that time, PIE has reached thousands of children and families in schools, parks, libraries, women's shelters, children's hospitals and other venues, often sponsored by the community, Riviere's own non-profits or through grants and donations.

Luis Valdez, the award-winning, renowned American playwright and creator of 'Zoot Suit,' 'La Bamba' and 'Cisco Kid,' will attend an Opening Weekend performance of his play, 'I Don't Have To Show You No Stinking Badges,' to be presented at Josefina Lopez's Casa 0101 Theatre in Boyle Heights, Calif., tonight, February 10, 2013.
