Seattle Opera announces the inaugural cohort of the Jane Lang Davis Creation Lab, which aims to support a new generation of storytellers in opera. The initiative is open to Washington artists ages 18–30 of all backgrounds—including those without opera experience. The 15 people selected will create short works, which will be performed in Tagney Jones Hall at the Opera Center in 2021.

The Chicago Public Library Foundation and the Chicago Public Library presented the 16th annual Carl Sandburg Literary Award to legendary composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim. Universally heralded for his immense contributions to musical theater in a career spanning more than 50 years, Sondheim was at the Carl Sandburg Literary Awards Dinner tonight, October 21, 2015 at The Forum (725 W. Roosevelt Road) on the campus of the University of Illinois at Chicago. This annual event serves as a showcase for the talents of the dancers in the CCBC Dance Company as well as for original and/or restaged works by CCBC dance faculty and guest artists. The concert will be performed at 11:15 a.m. today, May 1 and 8 p.m. May 2 and 3 in the College Community Center (COMM) Theatre at CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Boulevard in Rosedale, Md. Tickets are $8 general admission and $5 for seniors, students, faculty, staff and alumni. Current CCBC studentswith IDs are free.
