Pretty ballsy to quote yourself on your own website, right? Ironically, I wrote that as part of a poem when I was in the 6th grade. Flash forward many years later and I still haven’t lived by it. You see like many of you reading this now, I’m an Actor. Up until now, I’ve thought maybe my big break is just around the corner and that if I’m just patient enough, it will come. That’s a fools thought. In this industry, some people do get that miraculous success overnight, but for the rest, you need to stop waiting for what might be and get out there and make it happen. That’s what this website is a testament to. Taking that next step and seeing where my adventures might take me.
This will serve as a website not only for me, but for others as well. Sharing stories of trials and tribulations. The ups, the downs (that will likely be far more than the ups), the people I meet along the way, and the lessons I learn. My hope is that my journey may one day inspire others.
It’s often said that you can’t know where you are going until you know where you came from. I wasn’t always an Actor. In fact, as cliché as this seems, in High School I pretty much stuck to sports my Freshman year. I ran Cross Country, Winter Track, and Spring Track. I was however always involved in the Music Program going as far back as Elementary School in a select choir called “Pizzazz!”, to much disappointment I found out it had nothing to do with Pizza. However, among the many friendships formed from that group, one of my teachers stood out, Ms. Champion. My Freshman year of High School, I found out Ms. Champion was going to be my chorus teacher again for the first time since 5th Grade and I thought it was the coolest thing to be going into the High School already knowing my teacher. It was through Ms. Champion and my choir teacher for the remainder of my High School Career, Mr. Reich, that I was introduced to the CM Performing Arts Center in Oakdale, NY. At CMPAC, I had been given my first acting job as a Student in the ABC Café in Les Misérables under the direction of Noel S. Ruiz who would become a mentor for me over the years.
CMPAC had become a second home for me, and a place of many firsts - My first acting experience, my first job, I even met my first serious girlfriend there as well. I steadily performed and worked at CMPAC from 2004-2008 and then left for four years to tour with an original cast show called “The Living Dead Mafia”. From 2008-2012, I performed in several original shows, composed music for two Rock Bands and three indie films, starred in several student films, and networked the entire time. April of 2012, Noel had contacted me after seeing that my touring stint had ended and offered me a job as a Stage Manager on a production of Show Boat (which he then cast me as three featured characters in). In 2013, Noel sadly passed away. The Board of Directors, recognizing the skills I had acquired on tour for Networking and Marketing had created a position for me on permanent staff at CM to take them into the next generation with Social Media Marketing.
As I type this, I still work for CM in that capacity and have no intentions of leaving any time soon. However in the chaos of this job, I had put my own performing on the back burner. I take opportunities that come my way, but I have not been actively putting myself out there and breaking free of the nest like I once did. As one of my former Directors once said “In this line of work, talent means nothing. There’s talented people all around us, some you’ll never even hear of. To make it in this business, you need to dig in and do the work. Don’t complain about compensation, don’t complain about casting decisions, don’t complain about anything, because one day, a director will see how hard your work ethic is, and how dedicated you are to your passions, and that will take you further than talent ever will.”
I’m living proof of that with the successes that have come my way so far, and I will continue to work hard to see what comes next.
