Greater Boston Stage Company in Stoneham presents the Boston premiere of THE LEGEND OF GEORGIA MCBRIDE, a play with music about a not-so-great Elvis impersonator who finds success with a new calling involving lipstick, sequins, high heels, and specially-padded undergarments. If you subscribe to the philosophy that life is what happens when you're busy making other plans, then playwright Matthew Lopez makes a strong case for it.

How does an Elvis impersonator become a winning drag queen in the Florida Panhandle? Join us to find out in this heartfelt, raucous comedy filled with music, laughter, and lots of sequins. Directed and choreographed by Russell Garrett, performances run May 3 - 20, 2018. The Press Opening is Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 3:00pm.

Actors' Shakespeare Project kicks off 2017 with Christopher Marlowe's complex Edward II, England's notorious king who forsakes everything for his public and private passions--only to meet horrific ends at the hands of his queen and his conniving noblemen. ASP is fortunate to bring both the talents of its Resident Acting Company and director David R. Gammons to navigate the intricate theatrical landscape of this historically controversial and rarely seen play. The Harbor Stage Company continues its 5th season with the World Premiere of an original comedy by Harbor co-founder Brenda Withers. Set in an imagined province of 19th century Russia, The Kritik tells the story of a small-town writer struggling to turn in his first honest review. Originally commissioned by the Professional Actors Training Program at UNC Chapel Hill, the faux-period piece offers a spirited look at candor, corruption, and community.

The Suffolk University/Boston Playwrights' Theatre co-production of RHINOCEROS, newly adapted by Wesley Savick from Derek Prouse's translation, features a Boston setting, but maintains the themes of Eugene Ionesco's 1959 classic play from the Cold War era. Things being as they are, that sort of feels like the good old days, yet we are reminded that conformity, fascism, and totalitarianism have never gone out of style.

Playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins enjoys ambiguity and messing with traditional concepts and constructs. His 2014 Obie Award-winner for Best New American Play, APPROPRIATE, is a prime example as it defies categorization. He borrows themes and tropes from classic American family dramas, and the ensemble of actors in the SpeakEasy production carve out brilliant individual performances that rival anything one might see on a Broadway stage. M. Bevin O'Gara directs this breathtaking drama.
