Haunted by her past and struggling with the financial constraints of her family, May’s dream-chasing journey in London is marred by endless part-time jobs and low self-esteem… until she unexpectedly meets Lairs, a girl from East Asia, who changes her life forever. Envious of Lairs’ seemingly perpetual joy, May becomes increasingly curious about her new friend’s life, but beneath Lairs’ veneer of happiness and sexual allure, lies a self-destructive world. Both women are love-deprived: one ashamed to admit her need for love, the other desperately begging for love, both battling personal demons and seeking fulfilment. But how can they help each other? Is their unique friendship compatible with happiness? Inspired by the playwright’s real-life experiences, this play explores female independence and traditional expectations, asking how our upbringing and background ultimately shapes who we are and the choices we make.
