The Muny announced today that Broadway’s Dee Roscioli will complete the cast of the theatre’s 103rd season opener, Smokey Joe’s Cafe. The design and production team for the Muny premiere was also announced. Smokey Joe’s Cafe runs July 26 – Aug. 1.

he outdoor theatre will open at full capacity, utilizing each of its nearly 11,000 seats, including the 1,500 free seats offered nightly on a first come, first served basis.

The Muny will return to its stage in Forest Park this summer, beginning July 26 with a five-show lineup at reduced capacity to meet the recently-updated social distancing guidelines for the City of St. Louis. The theatre was originally slated to present seven shows this summer.

BroadwayWorld had the opportunity to sit down with The Muny’s Kwofe Coleman to discuss plans for the 103rd Season in Forest Park. “We are excited to produce five shows and bring people back to The Muny this summer.” Coleman shared that this is a significant step forward. Shows will be presented at a reduced capacity of 60%, or 6000 patrons for each performance. All parties will be socially distanced, separated by 3-feet on all sides. The Muny’s five show season will open with Smokey Joe’s Café, July 26 – August 1. The season continues with The Sound of Music, August 3-9, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers August 12 – 18, and On Your Feet, August 21 – 27. The season will close with Kander and Ebb’s Chicago from August 30 – September 5.

We chat with Muny Director of Operations Sean Smith, Production Manager Tracy Utzmyers, and Artistic Director/Executive Producer Mike Isaacson about their 103rd season, renovations, and reopening.

The Muny announced today dates for the highly-anticipated 2021 season. After postponing the 2020 lineup due to COVID-19, a first in the theatre’s 102-year history, The Muny plans to present the originally-announced seven shows in the upcoming 103rd season, should conditions allow. 

For the first time in 102 years, The Muny stage will remain empty this summer.

With careful and ongoing consideration, The Muny announced today a revised schedule to offer musical theatre in Forest Park this summer. Pushing opening night to late July, The Muny hopes to present five of the seven productions originally announced in the 2020 season, with the other two productions being postponed until the 2021 season.

The Muny has released a statement regarding the remainder of its 2020 season. The company says that they hope to continue their summer programming as planned.

The Muny announced today the directors, choreographers and music directors for its 2020 season, which opens June 15 with Kander and Ebb's internationally-acclaimed Chicago. Among the talented list are a mix of Muny favorites and newcomers. In addition to casting, a comprehensive list of design teams for each production will be released later this spring.
