Winter is in full swing, which also marks the beginning of my second semester of college. I learned a lot from my first semester: it was a big adjustment, but overall I would say it was pretty successful. I learned that I love the independence of college, although it comes with a lot of responsibility. For example, I need to manage my time properly so I don’t fall behind on assignments. 

My real work began the following week during tech, where we enjoyed hours and hours of lighting levels, and myself and the other ASM got exceedingly good at sweeping and mopping the dance floor. 

The metaphorical bricks, realistically being assignment deadlines, lack of sleep, long days in the theatre, and a bought of Covid-19, made for a long and tiring fall semester.  This is a sentiment shared by many in my program.

Ever since last year, I enter class on the first day and hear the phrase “A.I.” before I leave. It’s a discussion that upsets me above everything else. It’s been disappointing to hear that conversation get more and more urgent each semester. 

I am a walking SCAD advertisement - my love for the school is contagious and my knowledge about it is endless. I would advise anyone with a dream to consider the Savannah College of Art and Design.

And don’t you dare settle for anything less than what you want and deserve. Because once you find that perfect fit for you, it is amazing. Transferring was so so scary, but that fear is nothing compared to the joy I have now.

You’re walking through your school’s hallway and stumble across a poster that says “Spring Musical Auditions! Sign up today!” You think to yourself: Why should I do that? Participating in your school’s musical is a great way to grow and learn skills that can be used beyond the stage. 

I would graduate tomorrow if I could, but I am terrified to leave high school. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been dreaming about going to college since middle school. But leaving the same people I’ve gone to school with for four years, some even longer, and leaving my school music and theatre departments is the hardest part about looming graduation.

I have never been more attached to a show like You’re A Catch, and if I could go back to that week, I would. I’m currently in another show this week for Winchester’s Performing Arts society and even among a different group, I have several cast members singing songs from You’re A Catch that are just constantly stuck in their heads.

I blinked, and I’m four weeks into my second semester of freshman year at Wake Forest University. Already, I've been assistant stage manager of a professional workshop and started a new job in the scene shop. I have so many exciting theatre opportunities on the horizon in the coming months!

When you are not in the position to be auditioning, no matter the reason, self-advertisement will be your best friend. Social Media has become one of the greatest tools an actor can use. Bonus: casting directors have them, too; you never know when they could stumble across one of your videos. Use the tools you already have and the sky’s the limit!

Once a theatre kid always a theatre kid, right?  Absolutely.  This was something I truly realized when I got to college and something I took somewhat for granted in high school.  I started my first year at the University of Southern California as a mathematics major pursuing a pre-medicine track.  I thought this was fulfilling until I began to acknowledge the part of me that missed theatre and the artistic dimension of myself.  It took me one semester to change my major to political science and two to declare a minor in musical theater.  Finally, I feel I have found my niche.

Going to a college in Italy has a very different system to the ones in the US or even in any other parts of the world. Contrary to my friends in other colleges I do not pick any of the classes that I take. This semester I am taking some of the same classes as last semester and some of them change.

As a high school student, I used to attend classes for a whole year, during which we focused not only on learning the course material but also on socializing and building relationships with our classmates and teachers. We had plenty of time to participate in extracurricular activities, attend school events, and engage in other social activities. However, when I got to college, I quickly realized that things were different.

​​​​​​​Academic integrity is a fundamental aspect of education that involves submitting your work honestly and responsibly, without copying or plagiarizing from others. In today's world, where AI has made it easy to generate written content for assignments, essays, and answers, students must be truthful about the work they submit for school.

When you think of things that change with time, most people don't think of academic integrity, but as we create more tech and AI, academic integrity becomes harder to achieve, though keeping to it pays off.

have learned how to be rejected with grace and dignity. I proved to myself that hearing the word no is not the end of the world. It starts with some small experiments on getting rejected. What can we as artists do to face our rejection head on? 

It’s not often as a performer we can send our doppelgänger into our performances either. People will know! It goes the same for your papers. 

As the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) continues to permeate various facets of education, its impact on academic dishonesty has become a subject of intense scrutiny. The advent of advanced technologies has not only transformed the learning landscape but has also presented novel challenges in maintaining academic integrity.

I admire the fact that IAMT is untraditional. For instance, because nothing is formally graded, it motivates students to work hard, for no reason other than personal drive. It is one thing to be disciplined enough to get an A in a class, but it is another to learn how to push yourself when there is no immediate gratification for your efforts.

Tis the season to talk about the return to school after a long Winter Break. I’ve been back at school for almost a week now and have had a little trouble adjusting since I was home for so long. I’m sure a lot of my fellow college students can understand how I feel. Cont.

Theatre is usually designed to be a collaborative art form, but competitions for high-school thespians give us the opportunity to express our suppressed competitive instincts and use the skills we have developed in a “win-or-lose” environment.

Turning 20 is something I’ve been dreading for a while, and have had a lot of panicked, scared feelings about. Seeing “Kimberly Akimbo” on Broadway a few months ago was healing for me.
