WITCHES OF EASTWICK Premier 19th of September in Stockholm

Peter Jöback to star in Witches of Eastwick at Cirkus in Stockholm, Sweden

"The Witches of Eastwick" is a novel by John Updike, which was filmed in the 80s and became one of the decade's greatest cult films of the same name. The story was rebuilt into musical and was first put on London's West End. We can now proudly present the "Witches in Eastwick" on Circus this fall which is something very unique in its kind, never before has this award-winning musical been made in Sweden. The premiere is on September 19th at Circus in Stockholm.

After the success of "The Phantom of the Opera" it is now time for Peter Jöback to play the leading role in the next big international set. The musical "The Witches in Eastwick" is a co-production with one of the world's largest producers - Cameron Mackintosh - who is behind successes such as Cats, Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera, Hamilton, Miss Saigon and many more.

This humorous and spectacular musical is based on John Updike's cult movie Witches in Eastwick with Jack Nicholson, Michelle Pfeiffer, Cher and Susan Sarandon in the roles. In 2000, the musical version had a world premiere in London at the Ancient Theater Drury Lane. The main roles in the Swedish set have been hand-picked and auditions have been made by the English and Swedish teams in consultation with the Nestor Cameron Mackintosh. We are now presenting an ensemble with some of Sweden's strongest stage personalities in the autumn's magical performance.

Peter Jöback will play the leading role of the wealthy and completely irresistible "Daryl Van Horne" - the man who pops up when three girlfriends, bored by their dreary little city life and intoxicated by a little too strong martinis, dispel the time dreaming of the perfect man. The three women, who in different ways are dissatisfied with men but at the same time very unhappy without them, are: the new music teacher "Jane" (Linda Olsson), the single mother "Alexandra" (Kayo) and the abandoned book lover "Sukie" (Vanna Rosenberg). What women do not know is that they play with the fire. Is it really a coincidence that "Daryl" appears as a lightning strike in the small quaint town and is he in fact as wonderfully charming and delightful as it seems from the beginning? One by one, the women are seduced by his mysterious way, and suddenly inexplicable forces are brought to life by the women and unspoken turns take on ...

Peter Jöback participated in the world premiere of "Witches of Eastwick" at the West End in London in 2000, then as the young boy Michael. This role is now played by Martin Redhe Nord. Now Peter takes on the role of "Daryl", the musical for Circus in Stockholm and together with the witches Linda, Kayo and Vanna he has brought a bunch of renowned actors; Sussie Eriksson, Jan Mybrand, Hanna Ulvan, Kitty Chan and a large ensemble and orchestra.

In the creative team, you will find some of West End's most well-established names such as Rachel Kavanaugh (director) and Colin Richmond (stage designer and costume design). The translation of the original set is a revised version of Edward af Sillén who also becomes the Swedish director of the musical.
