More than 26 excited Cape Town youths received their first wands and began their charming magical education at the world-famous College of Magic in Claremont on Saturday 2 February 2019.

Following a warm welcome from the College's founder and director David Gore at a special assembly, the thrilled youngsters were whisked off on a whirlwind tour of the College's captivating Victorian manor base, home to Africa's largest magical museum, the continent's only brick and mortar Magic Shop, an enchanting magical library and more.

Having found their bearings at what will be their magical home for the next six years, the new magical recruits headed off to their first lesson and their inaugural peek behind the wizard's curtain.

Cries of amazement and wonder could be heard in the halls of the College as the new students learnt an introductory magical effect, received their first wands and joined in a recital of the Magician's Code - a promise to never 'spoil the wonder' by revealing the secrets of magic to the public.

For Alana le Roux (11) and Lucrecia Lottering (12) , both from Rondebosch East, their first magical lesson was a beguiling experience:

"We're so excited to learn everything about magic and its allied arts, including puppetry, which we're really interested in. It's so cool learning the art of magic with a friend!"

Pinelands resident Maelle Oudejans-Muna (10), a second generation magician and daughter of the Cape Town Magic Club producer Marcel Oudejans, agrees:

"I really like the mystery of magic and I am interested in all of its forms. I think it's going to be so cool to train to be a magician at the College of Magic!"

Their new classmate Finley Dale-Roberts (12) , from Plumstead, is excited about the prospect of learning at the alma mater of his magical role model Larry Soffer:

"Larry learnt his incredible mentalism skills at the College of Magic and I hope to follow in his footsteps by learning mentalism and all of the other types of magic."

14 interested high school students also started on their accelerated journey into the magical world as part of the Magic and Showmanship Course.

The College, now in its 39th year of teaching the theatrical performing art of magic and its allied arts as well as vital life-skills to children and adults, is thrilled to welcome its awesome new students:

"What an astonishing joy to welcome the next generation of young magicians to our wondrous institution! We look forward to guiding them on their magical educational journey and look forward to all of their future incredible feats", says Gore.

Registration for the second intake of Course One for the year will open in July 2019. For more information about the College of Magic and its courses, please visit www.collegeofmagic.com , send an email to info@collegeofmagic.com or call +27(0)21 683 5480.
