Earlier this week, the 2016-2017 class of Dramatists Guild Foundation Fellows presented excerpts of full length works at Playwrights Horizons at 7:00 PM. This presentation caps off a year spent working under the tutelage of Michael Korie (Grey Gardens), Laurence O' Keefe (Heathers), and Diana Son (Stop Kiss). Michael Lee Brown joined the Dear Evan Hansen company in October 2016 as understudy for all three young male roles. He has now played Jared, Connor and Evan to acclaim!

Dear Evan Hansen had a big night at the 71st Annual Tony Awards, taking home a grand total of six statues. After things wrapped up at Radio City Music Hall, the cast celebrated at the Empire Hotel. BroadwayWorld was on hand for the festivities and you can catch photos below!

AFTER HOURS THETRE COMPANY (who most recently produced I Love You Because) present, from the Academy Award-winning musical team responsible for "La La Land" and the smash Broadway hit Dear Evan Hansen, DOGFIGHT, music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, book by Peter Duchan, musical direction by Elmo Zapp, choreography and co-direction by Jennifer Oundjian and co-directed by Jennifer Strattan. DOGFIGHT will open on Friday, June 2 and perform through Sunday, June 25 at the Hudson Backstage, 6539 Santa Monica Blvd. in Hollywood.

STARS IN THE ALLEY, hosted by Tituss Burgess, presented its free outdoor concert yesterday in Shubert Alley, featuring the casts of ANASTASIA, BANDSTAND, COME FROM AWAY, DEAR EVAN HANSEN, MISS SAIGON and more. Everything's coming up Tonys! Spring has sprung, awards season has begun, and the latter is all that really matters to Broadway fans everywhere. Earlier this week, Jane Krakowski and Christopher Jackson announced the 2017 Tony nominees, celebrating the best of the 2016-17 theatre season (and what a season it's been!). Topping this year's list is Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812, which received twelve nominations, closely followed by Hello, Dolly! and Dear Evan Hansen- picking up ten and nine nods respectively. 

Director Michael Greif, who has directed seminal Broadway musicals including Rent, Next to Normal, Grey Gardens and many more, just received a Sardi's portrait to celebrate his career and work on Broadway directing this season's new musicals Dear Evan Hansen and War Paint. The casts from both of his shows came out to celebrate the occasion and BroadwayWorld was there!
