The Lilly Awards Broadway Cabaret, an evening of musical showstoppers written by women and performed by Broadway's best, benefits The Lilly Awards Foundation (Marsha Norman, President) whose mission is to promote gender parity at all levels of theatrical production, and develop and celebrate the work of women in the theater. Directed by Leigh Silverman, and with musical direction by Georgia Stitt, it was held on Monday night at The Cutting Room.

Last night was the American Premiere of Carey Perfloff's Kinship at the Williamstown Theatre Festival (Mandy Greenfield, Artistic Director) and BroadwayWorld was there.

FOR THE LAST TIME is a new jazz musical with music and lyrics by celebrated composer Nancy Harrow (This Side of Paradise), book by Will Pomerantz and Nancy Harrow, directed by Will Pomerantz(The Blue Flower), arrangements/ orchestrations by Dennis Mackrel (Conductor of the Count Basie Band), with music direction by Cody Owen Stine (Murder Ballad has received its world premiere at Theater Row's Clurman Theatre, and opened on May 28 and running through June 20, 2015. The Shubert Organization and Career Transition For Dancers along with the host committee: Andy Blankenbuehler, Graciela Daniele, Mercedes Ellington, Donna McKechnie, Jerry Mitchell, & Chita Rivera welcomed The Broadway Dance Community for a Buffet Dinner & Between-Shows-Get-Together at Sardi's, Eugenia Room (234 West 44th Street) on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 (5:00pm-7:00pm).  This event is generously underwritten by The Shubert Organization.  Past client Andy Blankenbuehler (award-winning choreographer of the hit musical 'Hamilton') addressed the group on his relation with the organziation and how beneficial they have been for him and thousands of others.

Signature Theatre presents the world premiere of The Painted Rocks at Revolver Creek, written and directed by Athol Fugard. The production began performances on April 21 and will now run through June 7 in The Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street between 9th and 10th Avenues). The generosity of the American theatre community shined brightly as six weeks of spring fundraising raised another record-breaking grand total for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. The 29th Annual Easter Bonnet Competition (#bwaybonnets) raised a remarkable $4,711,386, making this the third year in a row the event set a new fundraising record.

In 1948, a decade before Motown, black businessman and entrepreneur John Dolphin opened his soon-to-be world famous Dolphin's of Hollywood record store in South Los Angeles, just off legendary Central Avenue. Bringing this little-known slice of L.A. history to life on stage, the world premiere of Recorded in Hollywood opens at the Lillian Theatre on April 11. Vineyard Theatre's world premiere of the original musical BROOKLYNITE, helmed by Tony Award-winning director Michael Mayer (HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH, SPRING AWAKENING), opened last night, February 25th. Check out photos from opening night below!

The Lion, the gripping, highly acclaimed autobiographical solo show written and performed by Benjamin Scheuer, opened last night, February 8th, at the Lynn Redgrave Theater at Culture Project (45 Bleecker Street). Directed by Sean Daniels, The Lion will play an extended engagement Off-Broadway through March 29th, following an award-winning run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and sold-out productions at the Manhattan Theatre Club and London's St. James Theatre. Imagination Stage is the new home of Giant Country in The BFG (Big Friendly Giant), a play based on the book by Roald Dahl and adapted by David Wood. Co-directed by Imagination Stage's Associate Artistic Director Kathryn Chase Bryer and Eric J. Van Wyk of Viterbo University, The BFG integrates puppetry, rich visuals, and imaginative storytelling as Sophie and the Big Friendly Giant go on a magical journey to save the children of England. The cast of the new Broadway smash, Disney's Aladdin, was recently in the studio laying down tracks for the Original Cast Recording of the show, to be released by Walt Disney Records digitally on Tuesday, May 27th. The physical album is set for release on Tuesday, June 17th and will also be available for purchase in-theater. The Aladdin Original Broadway Cast Recording will be produced by Alan Menken, Michael Kosarin,Frank Filipetti and Chris Montan and executive produced by Kurt Deutsch. Amas Musical Theatre and The Countess of Storyville, LLC will present a developmental workshop of the new musical by Martin Silvestri (music), Joel Higgins (lyrics) and R.M. Cohen (book). This epic story of lust, love, mystery and murder will begin performances on February 12, 2014 at The Peter J. The world premiere of Greg Edwards & Andy Sandberg's new comedy, Craving for Travel will run Off-Broadway through February 9, 2014 at the Peter J. Sharp Theater (416 W. 42nd Street, NYC). Directed by Sandberg (Shida, The Last Smoker in America), a Tony Award-winner as a producer of Hair, the cast features Michele Ragusa (Young Frankenstein, Disaster!) and Thom Sesma (The Lion King, The Times They Are A-Changin') collectively playing thirty characters-chiefly, Joanne and Gary, rival travel agents (and former spouses) vying for their industry's most prestigious honor: the Globel Prize. The 25th anniversary celebration of GYPSY OF THE YEAR, the culmination of six weeks of extraordinary fundraising by 56 participating Broadway, Off-Broadway, and national touring companies, raised an amazing $4,343,234 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. The grand total was announced Tuesday, December 10, at this year's GYPSY OF THE YEAR, which included an array of original dances, songs, and skits performed by more than 250 'gypsies,' the most talented singers and dancers in the ensembles of Broadway and Off-Broadway shows.
