You gotta keep him here, Miss Jeffries. He’s the goose who laid the golden egg.

When local radio producer Marcia Jeffries interviews drunk drifter “Lonesome Rhodes” in his jail cell, she immediately sees his potential and gives him a slot on her show. But as Lonesome's fans grow more clamorous and the politicians start taking notice, Marcia realises she has unleashed a force she can no longer control.

Featuring original songs by Grammy Award-winner Elvis Costello, A Face in the Crowd highlights the dangers of elevating celebrities to positions of unchecked power. Young Vic Artistic Director Kwame Kwei-Armah directs the world premiere of Sarah Ruhl’s (Eurydice, The Clean House) adaptation of the Hollywood classic.

Review: JULIA MASLI: HA HA HA HA HA HA HA, Soho Theatre
by Kat Mokrynski - Feb 7, 2024

Julia Masli: ha ha ha ha ha ha ha is an absurd yet strangely comforting hour of agony aunt-style comedy that will leave you slightly nervous about having a microphone attached to a prosthetic leg being placed in front of your face for you to confess your fears to the world.

NIGHT SONGS AT CONEY ISLAND a stunning spectacle of sight and sound.

Review: THE COLOR PURPLE at Garden Theater
by Paul Batterson - Jan 26, 2024

A show about domestic violence and oppression doesn’t sound like a cheery night at the theater. Here’s what makes the show work: the music and lyrics, especially in the opening three numbers, are about as uplifting as one can get in a show and secondly, there are opportunities for redemption for every character

Review: LITTLE WOMEN Through a Real, Modern Lens at Milwaukee Repertory Theater
by Kelsey Lawler - Jan 22, 2024

What did our critic think of LITTLE WOMEN at Milwaukee Repertory Theater? Real. Just as you are. Those are a couple of the key themes in Kate Hamill’s new adaptation of the classic Little Women. On stage now at the Milwaukee Repertory Theater under the direction of Marti Lyons, Little Women opens with a cozy scene: a miniature house with a smoking chimney set against sumptuous red velvet curtains.

Review: BEAUTIFUL: THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL at Titusville Playhouse
by Joseph Harrison - Jan 14, 2024

One of the things that I love the most about musical theatre as an artform is that the genre contains multitudes. From a thrilling, bombastic and electrifying show that takes your breath away to a quieter, more introspective and emotionally devastating production, and everything in between, they are all musicals. And sometimes, a production just feels comfortable – like a favorite chair, seated by a fire on a cold winter evening – making you feel safe and putting a satisfied smile on your face. That is the case with the recent hit Broadway musical - BEAUTIFUL: THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL which is now playing at Titusville Playhouse in Titusville, FL through February 18th. This crowd-pleasing show transports its audience to the world of 1960s songwriting and brings them along for the rise of a music legend. And in Titusville Playhouse's highly capable hands, this vibrant production captures perfectly the spirit of Carole King's storied journey, from her early days as a Brooklyn teenager to her meteoric ascent as a solo artist and does so with polish and pizzazz.

by Ayaka Ozaki - Jan 7, 2024

Kazuya Kamenashi: A veteran artist with 25 years of experience, embarked on a groundbreaking venture by organizing the fan event 'Inside 23.' The theme of this 'experiment No.0' was centered around 'expressing oneself through cover songs.' With a desire to create a place which allows him to connect with fans and staff with his hurt, Kazuya enlisted Eriko Kitagawa, the scriptwriter for his starring work ‘Tatta hitotsu no koi (たったひとつの恋),' to handle the monologue. As a member of KAT-TUN, Kazuya is known for his multifaceted contributions, including music, acting, variety shows, and sports casting. His solo works and KAT-TUN’s recent releases, and this event are available for streaming internationally, showcasing his popularity beyond Japan. He has also launched a YouTube channel recently. In the currently released film 'Lumberjack the Monster,” which he played the lead and directed by Takashi Miike, he attended the Sitges Film Festival. Additionally, in January, he will make his debut in a historical drama, 'Ohoku(大奥),' airing on Fuji TV, and in April, he is set to appear in the TV Asahi series 'Destiny.' With these ongoing projects, his presence becomes increasingly captivating, making it impossible to divert one's attention.

Review: BETH LEAVEL Leaves the Crowd in Stitches at 54 Below
by Rebecca Kaplan - Jan 6, 2024

Leavel, known for her roles in hit musicals The Drowsy Chaperone and The Prom, has a rare ability to employ the impressive singing voice of a serious traditional nightclub act while also being wholly comedic, switching back and forth between the two at the drop of a hat and occasionally somehow managing to embody both at once.

In December 2023, the OC welcomed back two powerhouse vocalists who each gave their own respective holiday-themed concerts: Broadway fave Megan Hilty at Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa; and recording artist Linda Eder at the Irvine Barclay Theatre.
