John Grade's VIEW FROM UP HERE On Display at the Anchorage Museum, Thru 10/2
by Christina Mancuso - May 26, 2016

In View From Up Here, the new exhibition at the Anchorage Museum in Alaska, conceptual artist John Grade explores sculptural forms based on Japanese fishing floats. For the past century, floats made of thick, hand-blown glass have traveled to the Arctic coast from Asian waters, buoyed by harsh, ocean currents. They can get trapped in sea ice for decades, ultimately washing up on the Alaskan shoreline -- often in pristine condition. Grade created his own versions of blown glass forms, many of which are encased in a wood exoskeleton inspired by other organic, ocean bound elements.

BWW Reviews: That Was No Lady, That Was Netrebko, in Verdi's MACBETH at the Met
by Richard Sasanow - Oct 13, 2014

Ever since I heard Anna Netrebko's “Verdi” album last year, which highlighted excerpts from the operatic treatment of Shakespeare's MACBETH, I knew her Verdi was the real deal and couldn't wait for her to take on the full Lady Macbeth on stage. Her performances in the Adrian Noble production currently at the Met confirmed my best expectations--and then some.

BWW Reviews: POTS at The Works Series Takes a Giant Step with 4000 MILES
by Joseph Baker - Jul 13, 2014

Amy Herzog's family drama (albeit a drama with a number of very funny moments) 4000 MILES is unobtrusively generating a thoughtful, low-key alternative to the outsized HAIRSPRAY (already a sellout at 'Big Sister' Playhouse on the Square just a block or so away); and it's a safe bet that a number of theatre-going Memphians are already trekking south to DeSoto Family Theatre's epic presentation of LES MISERABLES. However, this intelligent, intimate little piece is currently providing a rewarding alternative at Theatre Works, quietly nestled across from the parking garage at Overton Square.
