The 21st Annual Dusty Film and Animation Festival and Awards - taking place May 2-7 culminates with an awards ceremony and gala, Thursday, May 6 at 6:30PM at the SVA Theatre (333 West 23rd Street) and features a full roster of names from the world of film and animation.

Aaron Louis (Producing Director, 3LD Art & Technology Center) in association with New Georges and The Essentials, will present the world premiere of THE DIARY OF A TEENAGE GIRL, written by Marielle Heller, adapted from the hit graphic novel of the same name by Phoebe Gloeckner, and directed by Sarah Cameron Sunde and Rachel Eckerling in a multi-media production. Performances began on Sunday, March 15 3LD Art & Technology Center, 80 Greenwich Street (just south of Rector Street). The production will end its run Monday, April 12.)

Is "Ragtime" the Great American Musical? Certainly a grand argument in favor of that statement is now on display at the Drury Lane Theatre in Chicago's western suburb of Oakbrook Terrace, where one of the strongest home-grown musical productions in recent memory very nearly floored the opening night audience this past Wednesday night.

The program includes screenings of short films, videos and animations; and an awards ceremony and gala with notable presenters from the film industry. This year's Screenwriters Night is a proud collaboration with The Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in which SVA graduating screenwriters will have selected scenes performed live by alumni from The Neighborhood Playhouse. All festival events take place at the SVA Theatre (333 West 23rd Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues).

Dmitri Shostakovich's The Nose has its Metropolitan Opera premiere on March 5 at 8:00 pm, conducted by Valery Gergiev, in a visually arresting new production by artist William Kentridge that features original collage, film, sculpture, and massive projections of the artist's drawings and prints. Making his Met debut, baritone Paulo Szot performs the role of Kovalyov in the story of the Russian official who wakes one morning to discover his nose has disappeared (and taken on a higher bureaucratic rank). Based on the short story of the same name by Nikolai Gogol, the opera is what Kentridge has called an exploration of "learning from the absurd." In this production, visuals include renderings of Soviet workers, snatches of newspaper, and projections of propaganda - as well as the missing appendage in adventures ranging from delivering a speech to riding a horse.

Bill Frisell, Ron Carter, and Paul Motian - three of the top players on their respective instruments - will take the Blue Note stage in early December for a special series of trio concerts. The three legends recorded an album in 2006 for Nonesuch records under their own name, but rarely play together live. Brought back by popular demand, the group will reunite at the Blue Note from February 23 - 28.

The real monsters, dragons, and basilisks are back! More than 60 live lizards and snakes from five continents in exquisitely prepared habitats. In addition to the live animals, the exhibit uses interactive stations, significant fossils, and an award-winning video to acquaint visitors with the world of the Squamata, the group that includes lizards and snakes. Vistors can learn about ballistic tongues of chameleons, how a basilisk escapes from predators by running across water, amazing camouflage of Madagascar geckos, the 3-D thermal vision of rattlesnakes and boas, spitting cobra fangs, blood-squirting Horned Lizards, flying snakes and lizards, and other gravity-defying squamates.
