TheatreWorks, the nationally acclaimed theatre of Silicon Valley, will present the Tony Award-winning musical adaptation of THE SECRET GARDEN.

In THE SECRET GARDEN, Ten-year-old orphan Mary Lennox is sent to live with her uncle Archibald Craven, a man who's given up on life after the death of his wife Lily. Mary uncovers the mystery of Lily's long-abandoned secret garden and unlocks the door to happiness for herself and her uncle.

The Astoria Performing Arts Center (APAC), 2011 IT Award Nominee for last season's The Human Comedy, announces their 11th Season featuring Ashlin Halfnight's A Hard Wall at High Speed and the musical The Secret Garden. Reflecting on the past ten years and with an eagerness for the upcoming year, Artistic Director Tom Wojtunik says, 'I am thrilled that in our 11th Season APAC will be producing primarily new work, as we begin to move away from our acclaimed revival productions into an arena of premieres and workshops.'

Our sixth season will be a season of rediscovery. Join us as we bring to life five classic musicals and one comedy show. 'Make life a banquet' as we kick off 2012 with the hilarious and entertaining antics of Mame. Join us for a riotous, madcap comedy that will get everyone caught in the act with Michael Frayn's Noises Off. Next up, bring the entire family to the Theatre as we explore the mysterious wonders of The Secret Garden with 11-year old Mary Lennox.

Frances Hodgson Burnett's work, THE SECRET GARDEN, was initially serialized before being published in 1911 and becoming a children's classic. Several attempts by Hollywood have tried to capitalize on it's dramatic and hope-filled story, with the 1949 MGM adaptation, starring Margaret O'Brien, wonderfully changing from black and white into full-blown technicolor as the garden is revealed in all it's splendor. However. most folks today will probably be more familiar with the the rather staid, but thoughtful motion picture made in 1993, which was fairly well mounted. This current stage adaptation is far more appealing in any number of ways, with stronger acting and a memorably performed score being among the many highlights that are attractive to an audience interested in the material.

The production will star Caldwell's Broadway Concert luminaries, Wayne LeGette and Melissa Minyard, while adding newcomer Amy Miller Brennan.

The production opens May 6 and will continue through Sunday, June 12, 2011. Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 PM, Sundays, at 7:00 PM (May 8, 15 and 22), and Sunday matinees at 2:00 PM (May 15, 22, 29, June 5 and 12). The show sponsor is The Richard & Janet Geary Foundation.

The Broadway community once again opened its arms to the students of John A. Coleman Catholic High School of Hurley, New York. The school, which has gained a reputation for some of the best young musical theater talent in the Hudson River Valley, produced The Secret Garden in honor of the 20th anniversary of the show's Broadway debut in April of 1991. The cast of Coleman Musical Theater's production recently traveled into New York City to meet members of the original Broadway cast.
