by Shari Barrett - Jun 5, 2020
This Spotlight focuses on John Wuchte, a talented actor/director/writer/composer and amazing Tribal Acting theater creator, who I first met during last year's Hollywood Fringe Festival when I attended his masterful musical production Scarlett Fever which told the true story of the great search to find an actress to portray Scarlett O'Hara in Gone with the Wind in 1939. The production utilized John's unique style of performance, which he calls Tribal Acting; a combination of movement, gesture, song and dance, all accompanied by live percussion. And I was hooked!

British Muslim Stories Take Centre Stage In Family Show Commission
by Stephi Wild - Oct 22, 2019
In a move to address the lack of British Muslim stories seen on UK stages, east London's Stratford Circus Arts Centre and Bradford's Kala Sangam Arts Centre are to offer seed funding to theatre companies. Artists and companies were invited to apply for funding to create new family shows that celebrate British Muslim experiences, culture and communities. As part of the initial phase, three theatre companies have been selected to receive £2000, free rehearsal space and the opportunity to pitch to the Theatre for Young Audiences Consortium in November. From these, one company will then be offered the opportunity to take their idea to full production and will premiere in London or Bradford in October 2020.
BWW Review: JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR at Popejoy Hall
by Beth Leitman - Oct 18, 2019
The 50th anniversary tour of Jesus Christ Superstar updates the much-loved Andrew Lloyd Webber musical and modernizes it in a way that makes it more accessible and enjoyable to today's audiences. The musical, which debuted on Broadway in 1971, has reached a world-wide audience since then, with performances in Australia, Europe, and the West End. There have been several filmed versions of the production as well, including the 1973 movie starring Ted Neeley, as well as a more modern retelling of the rock opera in 2000 starring Glenn Carter. Finally, on Easter Sunday, NBC aired a live version of the production starring John Legend as Jesus. The longevity of the musical, as well as the various adaptations that have been made, show just how beloved the show has been for decades.
