Apollo's Fire Launches 24th Season With BACH'S BIRTHDAY PARTY: ORCHESTRAL FIREWORKS Tonight

Apollo's Fire, the Cleveland Baroque Orchestra kicks off the 2014-15 Season with a festive celebration of J.S. Bach's 'Orchestral Fireworks,' launching a season that will celebrate Bach's 330th birthday throughout the year. In these opening concerts, the group will unveil three great Bach pieces never yet played by Apollo's Fire: Concerto in C minor for Two Harpsichords, BWV 1060 (featuring Jeannette Sorrell and Joe Gascho on harpsichord), Violin Concerto in E Major (featuring AF concertmaster Olivier Brault), and Orchestral Suite No. 2 in B Minor for Flute & Strings (featuring Kathie Stewart on flute). The Dallas Opera's explosive second production of the 2014-2015 "Heights of Passion" Season is SALOME by Richard Strauss (whose libretto was based on Hedwig Lachmann's German translation of Oscar Wilde's play). SALOME, generally regarded as one of the masterpieces of the Late Romantic Era, opens on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. in theMargot and Bill Winspear Opera House at the AT&T Performing Arts Center located in the Dallas Arts District.

Edward Albee's A DELICATE BALANCE Begins Previews Monday, Oct. 20

Glenn Close, John Lithgow, Lindsay Duncan, Bob Balaban, Clare Higgins, and Martha Plimpton will star in a new Broadway production of Edward Albee's A Delicate Balance this fall at the Golden Theatre (252 West 45th Street). The production, which will be directed by Pam MacKinnon, begins previews Monday, October 20 and plays an 18-week limited engagement through Sunday, February 22, 2015. Opening night is Thursday, November 20.

Katie Brayben to Star in West End's BEAUTIFUL - THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL, February

Katie Brayben will play the title role in the West End production of Beautiful - The Carole King Musicalopening at the Aldwych Theatre in February next year. Alan Morrissey will play King's husband and song-writing partner Gerry Goffin, with Lorna Want as song-writer Cynthia Weil, Glynis Barber as Genie Klein, King's mother, and Gary Trainor as music publisher and producer Don Kirshner. London previews beginning on 10 February 2015 and with the show currently booking to 13 June 2015. Press night will now take place on 24 February at 7pm. Final casting will be announced shortly.

The Handel and Haydn Society (H+H) is deeply saddened by the death of its conductor laureate, Christopher Hogwood, who served as Handel and Haydn Society Artistic Director from 1986 to 2001. Christopher Hogwood profoundly changed the direction and vision of this venerable institution, and added tremendously to its renown and international profile.

The MET: Live in HD returns with 10 productions in the 2014-15 Season

Handel and Haydn Society to Open Bicentennial Season on 10/10 & 12

The Handel and Haydn Society (H+H), led by Artistic Director Harry Christophers, opens the 2014-2015 Bicentennial Season on October 10 and 12 with the joyous program, Baroque Fireworks! H+H turns 200. The celebration continues with performances of historically significant works that H+H introduced to American audiences in the 19th century (Handel's Messiah, Mendelssohn's Elijah, Bach's St. Matthew Passion, and Haydn's Creation). The Bicentennial Season culminates in the spring and summer with an interactive exhibit at the Boston Public Library exploring H+H's history, a world premiere work by prominent American composer Gabriela Lena Frank, and a free outdoor performance of Beethoven's epic Ninth Symphony ('Ode to Joy').

From September 4-14, 2014, Houston Ballet launches its 45th season with the company premiere of John Neumeier's three-act ballet A Midsummer Night's Dream. The ballet is based on Shakespeare's lighthearted play of the same name and follows the hijinks and hilarity that ensues when a well-intentioned plan with a love potion goes awry. Created in 1977, A Midsummer Night's Dream has served as Mr. Neumeier's calling card, being seen as one of his most joyous and popular creations. Houston Ballet is the first American ballet company to perform the famous work and it is the first piece by Mr. Neumeier to enter the Houston Ballet repertoire.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic's annual tradition at the Hollywood Bowl -Tchaikovsky Spectacular with Fireworks, will take place Friday and Saturday, August 15 and 16, at 8 pm. Conductor Leonard Slatkin leads the orchestra in an all-Tchaikovsky program, featuring Marche slave and selections from Swan Lake. The evening includes the Hollywood Bowl debut of young French violinist Alexandra Soumm performing Tchaikovsky's famous Violin Concerto, and concludes with the USC Trojan Marching Band, directed by Dr. Arthur C. Bartner, joining the orchestra to perform the thrilling 1812 Overture accompanied by cannons and a spectacular fireworks display.
