Leslie Ezra Smith is, arguably, becoming one of the most-respected actors on the Pittsburgh stage. One of Pittsburgh's favorite sons seems to earn genuine acclaim from his 'passionate' portrayals on stage. Even more than a gifted actor, this national spoken word, and slam poet, is also a father, playwright, and a science aficionado. Smith is preparing to portray the role of Walter Lee Younger in the, upcoming, 'A Raisin in the Sun', in the premiere offering of the, new, Erie Theater Company.

In response to popular demand and critical acclaim, Soho Rep. and The Play Company, in association with John Adrian Selzer, announce a second extension of the U.S. premiere of debbie tucker green's generations to November 23. The production, which opened on October 12, was declared a New York Times Critics' Pick by Charles Isherwood who called it 'a singular theatrical experience,' noting 'that the play reverberates in your mind and heart long afterward, like the taste of a great meal that you savor for days.' In her Time Out New York Critic's Pick review, Helen Shaw called it 'a devastating aria,' while Hilton Als in The New Yorker called it 'a miniature spectacle' that 'is filled with so much warmth and thought that the feeling it imparts lasts for a long time after you've left the theatre.'

Angélique Kidjo will headline Carnegie Hall on November 5 in a tribute to 'Mama Africa,' the great South African singer and political activist Miriam Makeba-whom Kidjo cites as her own role model and career-long inspiration. In the preface to her autobiography Spirit Rising: My Life, My Music, out now on HarperCollins, Desmond Tutu writes, 'Angélique was herself inspired by Miriam Makeba, Mother Africa, and she in her turn is now an inspiration to others with her message that, yes, the sky is the limit, and she urges them to reach for the stars.'

Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts today announced Finn Wittrock as The Actor, Sarah Wayne Callies as The Actress, and Shuler Hensley as The Critic in the Kennedy Center production of The Guardsman in the Eisenhower Theater May 25 to June 23, 2013. Based on the 1910 comedy by Hungarian playwright Ferenc Molnar, The Guardsman features a new literal translation by Richard Nelson and is directed by Gregory Mosher. The press opening will take place on Thursday, May 30 at 7:30 p.m.
