JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT Opens March 15 at Broadway By The Bay

With "a crash of drums, a flash of light," Broadway by the Bay begins their 2019 season with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. One of the most enduring shows of all time, Joseph is the irresistible family musical about the trials and triumphs of Joseph, Israel's favorite son. The first collaboration of composer Andrew Lloyd Webber (Jesus Christ Superstar, The Phantom of the Opera, Cats) and lyricist Tim Rice (Jesus Christ Superstar, The Lion King), Joseph blends pop, country, and rock into an uplifting, technicolored story of biblical proportions. Retelling the Biblical story of Joseph, his eleven brothers, and the coat of many colors, this magical musical is full of unforgettable songs including "Those Canaan Days", "Any Dream Will Do" and "Close Every Door". This timeless tale, told by a cast of 36, including 10 youth, is filled with surprising humor for adults and dazzling delights for children, and is appropriate for the whole family!

The musical was only 20 minutes long when the unknown 19-year-old Webber first created it for a British school choir in 1968. He asked his friend Rice to write the lyrics and soon they expanded it to 40 minutes and took it to the London stage. Since then, Joseph has continued to grow, both in length and popularity.

Joseph runs for nine performances only beginning March 15, 2019. Tickets (ranging from $44-$66) are available by calling (650) 579-5565, online at www.broadwaybythebay.org, or at the Box Office located at 2219 Broadway Street in downtown Redwood City. The Box Office is open Monday through Friday from 12pm to 5pm. On performance days, the Box Office is open 60 minutes prior to the start of each show and remains open for 30 minutes following the start of the performance. Group rates are available for 10 or more.

Broadway by the Bay's production features Matt Ono in the title role of Joseph, Chelsey Ristaino as the Narrator, and features Chris Fernandez as Jacob, Nathan Temby as Potiphar, Jennifer Martinelli as Mrs. Potiphar, and Manuel Caneri as Pharaoh.
