Utah Symphony Presents Lerner And Loewe's MY FAIR LADY

Bring a valentine to enjoy the production of Lerner and Loewe's "My Fair Lady" with the Utah Symphony playing the exquisite musical score in Abravanel Hall on February 15 & 16 7:30 PM. This classic Broadway hit will be performed by Broadway singers in period costumes and the Utah Symphony will play under the direction of Utah Symphony Associate Conductor Conner Gray Covington. Utah Symphony Associate Conductor Conner Gray Covington begins his second season with the Utah Symphony. In his first season as Assistant Conductor, Covington conducted over 80 performances of classical, education, film, pops, and family concerts as well as tours throughout the state. Prior to his tenure in Utah, he was the Rita E. Hauser Conducting Fellow at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia where he worked closely with the Curtis Symphony Orchestra and the Curtis Opera Theater while also being mentored by Philadelphia Orchestra Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Covington has also worked with the symphonies of St. Louis, Utah, Virginia, and Monterey (California) as a guest conductor and will make debuts with the Kansas City Symphony and the Portland (Maine) Symphony in the 2018-19 season.

Adapting Director Curt Olds has directed productions of "My Fair Lady," "The Mikado," "Spamalot!," "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," "Cats," "Carmen," "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels," "The Pirates of Penzance," and more at regional theatres and in educational institutions. He has also given a variety of masterclasses at young artist programs and universities, demonstrating an investment in emerging talents in the performing arts. Last season, Mr. Olds worked with UIA Presents on their production of "My Fair Lady": In Concert with both Milwaukee Symphony and North Carolina Symphony. Mr. Olds also has an active singing career in opera, concert, and musical theatre, most recently with Utah Opera in "The Merry Widow."

Emmy Award winner Peter Scolari is best known for his roles as Henry Desmond in ABC's "Bosom Buddies" and Michael Harris in CBS' "Newhart," in which he received three Emmy nominations. Most recently, his recurring role as Tad Horvath in the HBO series "Girls" won him the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series. He has also appeared on Broadway in "Wicked," "Hairspray" and "Lucky Guy" which reunited him with his "Bosom Buddies" co-star, Tom Hanks.

Susan Derry debuted on Broadway in the Tony-winning revival of "Wonderful Town" and starred as Christine in "The Phantom of the Opera" in Hamburg, Germany. Theatrical highlights include Francesca in "The Bridges of Madison County," Marian in "The Music Man," Lily/Kate in "Kiss Me, Kate!," Desdemona in "Othello," Eliza in "My Fair Lady," Meg in "Crimes of the Heart," and Gwendolen in "The Importance of Being." Jeffrey Mattsey is renowned worldwide for the signature baritone roles that have defined his prominent career. A house favorite at The Metropolitan Opera, this season he returns for their productions of "La fanciulla del West," "Gianni Schicchi," "Otello," and "La traviata." Mr. Mattsey also performed several contemporary musical roles including Starbuck in "110 in the Shade," Red Shadow in "Desert Song," Robert Mission in "New Moon" with New York City Opera and Emile de Becque in "South Pacific" with Ash Lawn Opera.

The actor and singer, Charlie Tingen is rapidly earning a reputation as a talent to watch. Recently, he appeared Off-Broadway as Zito in "Under the Overture" and Thomas in "Whiskey Pants: The Mayor of Williamsburg." Regionally, he played Tenorio in "Man of La Mancha" at The Princeton Festival and Young Scrooge in "A Christmas Carol: The Musical" with Arizona Broadway Theatre. Mr. Tingen also appeared as Freddy Eynsford-Hill in UIA Presents' first productions of "My Fair Lady": In Concert with Milwaukee Symphony and North Carolina Symphony.

Soprano Cree Carrico lights up opera, theater, and concert stages with her "gleaming tone" (Opera News). Most notable opera credits include Zegner Daughter, Littler in "Proving Up" with Opera Omaha at The Miller Theater in New York; Beatrice in "Three Decembers" with Nashville Opera; and Adele in "Die Fledermaus" with Opera Tampa. Favorite symphonic credits include "Carousel" with New York Philharmonic with John Rando and Rob Fisher and Cunegonde in "Candide" with South Dakota Symphony and "The Muny's 100th" with St. Louis Symphony.

After its premier in 1956, the music of "My Fair Lady" quickly became a classic favorite in the Broadway world. Not only has the musical won several Tony Awards over the years, but the musical has been revived more than seven times on Broadway. The "My Fair Lady": In Concert with Utah Symphony production will feature many of the Broadway musical's songs including its most popular song, "I Could Have Danced All Night."
