National Tour Of KINKY BOOTS Comes To Folsom

A huge-hearted, high-heeled hit, Kinky Boots is a joyous musical celebration about the friendships we discover and the belief that you can change the world when you change your mind. Inspired by true events, and with songs by Grammy and Tony winning pop icon Cyndi Lauper, direction and choreography by two-time Tony Award-winner Jerry Mitchell (Legally Blonde, Hairspray) and a book by Broadway legend and four-time Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein (La Cage Aux Folles), Kinky Boots is the winner of six Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Choreography. (An extensive list of Kinky Boots's awards is at bottom of attached press release.) During its extensive run on Broadway, the New York Times called it "the hottest musical on Broadway!"

Kinky Boots comes to the Harris Center for five performances, beginning Friday, February 15, 2019 at 7:30 pm; Saturday, February 16 at 2 and 7:30 pm; Sunday, February 17 at 1 and 6:30 pm. Tickets are $48-$83; Premium $92; 10% Discount for Sunday evening single tickets. Tickets are available online at www.harriscenter.net or from Harris Center Ticket Office at 916-608-6888 from 12 noon to 6 pm, Monday through Saturday, and two hours before show time. Parking is included in the price of the ticket. Harris Center is located on the west side of Folsom Lake College campus in Folsom, CA, facing East Bidwell Street.

Kinky Boots takes you from a gentlemen's shoe factory in Northampton to the glamorous catwalks of Milan. Charlie Price is struggling to live up to his father's expectations and continue the family business of Price & Son. With the factory's future hanging in the balance, help arrives in the unlikely but spectacular form of Lola, a fabulous performer in need of some sturdy new stilettos. The result is "sweetly, vivaciously, irresistibly good" (Washington Post) musical theater.

Charlie Price's journey is based on the true story of Steve Pateman, an Englishman who was struggling to save his family-run shoe factory from closure. Under pressure from changes in fashion and competition from abroad, he started to look for new markets. An unexpected call from a woman who ran a shop specializing in transgender glamour wear convinced him to try a line of women's shoes in men's sizes. He developed his line of "kinky boots" under the brand name "Divine Footwear."

"There is no show hotter than Kinky Boots!" (CBS News); it was created by a dream team of talented and original artists: a Tony Award-winning (and Grammy Award-winning) score by Cyndi Lauper, a book by Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein, and direction and choreography by Tony Award-winner Jerry Mitchell. "Because we're all different, we brought in what we know and we all worked together to make it right - to make you laugh and cry," says Lauper. "Harvey is such a good storyteller and so is Jerry. They have a lot of heart and I feel very blessed to be among them." It opened on Broadway on April 4, 2013 and broke all box office records at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, recouping faster than any big budget musical in recent history. Kinky Boots has won every major Best Musical Award and is represented around the world by a Tony Award-winning Broadway company now in its fifth year.

Leading the Folsom performances will be Connor Allston as "Charlie Price," Kenneth Mosley as "Lola," Ashley North as "Nicola," Karis Gallant as "Lauren," James May as "George," James Fairchild as "Don," Kelsee Sweigard as "Pat," Shaun Nerney as "Harry," and Geoff Davin as "Mr.Price." The tour will also feature Lynda DeFuria, Stephen Foster Harris, Chris Kane, Kirby Lunn, Andrew Malone, Julian Malone, Rebecca Mason-Wygal, Mitchell Matyas, Andrew Poston, Jenny Liz Taylor, and Kim Truncale.
