Phoenix Theatre Ensemble Presents Adaptation of GOOD BONES

Phoenix Theatre Ensemble, a nonprofit theatre company now in its 15th season, announces that Eileen Glenn's stage adaptation of Margaret Atwood's Good Bones and Simple Murders will be performed at New York's Downtown Arts on Thursday & Friday, February 21st & 22nd at 7:00pm and as part of the company's expansion of programming to the Rockland/Westchester area, it will be presented at Nyack NY's historic library on Saturday, February 23rd at 2:00pm. This is prior to a full NYC run scheduled for October/November 2019.

Margaret Atwood's Good Bones and Simple Murders showcases Atwood's razor-sharp wit and wry observations from the feminine perspective that has been described as entertaining, liberating and even reincarnating.

Margaret Atwood is a celebrated author whose best-known novel "The Handmaid's Tale" has become a global phenomenon adapted for television, film, stage, opera, and ballet. Good Bones is considerably lighter in tone than Handmaid's Tale, for instance Atwood's story of Gertrude's disclosure to her son "I always thought it was a mistake calling you Hamlet...What kind of name is that? ... I wanted to call you George." And the traditional method of making a man "Take some dust off the ground. Form. Breathe into the nostrils the breath of life. Simple, but effective." The Chicago Tribune called Glenn's stage adaptation and presentation "A stunning theatrical representation of Atwood's voice and a soul satisfying literary feast!"

The play was adapted for the stage and stars Eileen Glenn under the direction of Phoenix Theatre Ensemble Artistic Associate Karen Case Cook. The stage manager is Stephanie Higgins, and Miguel Valderrama is lighting designer.

Performances are at Downtown Art at 70 East 4th Street, NYC on Thursday and Friday, February 21 & 22 @7:00 pm; and at the Nyack Library, at 59 South Broadway, Nyack, NY on Saturday February 23 @2:00 pm. Running time is 65 minutes.

are $30 & $20 and are available at www.PhoenixTheatreEnsemble.org and at www.NyackTheatre.com or by calling 212-352-3101.
