A Salute to Women Composers at Hoff-Barthelson Music School

The 2018-19 Hoff-Barthelson Music School Faculty Concert Series concludes on Friday, March 8, 2019, at 7:30 pm with "Women Composers Over the Centuries" in recognition of Women's History Month. The concert takes place at the School, 25 School Lane, Scarsdale.

Women's History Month began with a Presidential proclamation in 1980; it created an annual declared month to highlight the contributions of women to events in American history and contemporary society. As March is annual Women's History Month, the March Faculty Concert honors and recognizes women in the arts with a program dedicated to under-represented contemporary women composers, along with a bow to Clara Schumann (1819-1896) who may well have been the least-acknowledged significant composer of her time.

Works to be performed include Amy Beach's Piano Trio in a minor, Opus 150; Madeleine Dring's Trio for Flute, Oboe and Piano; Westchester composer Pamela Sklar's Februarium for Alto Flute, Clarinet and Piano (2018); Martha Sullivan's Settings of poems by Emily Dickinson; Clara Schumann's 3 Romances for Violin and Piano, Opus 22; Germaine Tailleferre's Sonata for Clarinet Solo (1957); and works by Carole King, Bev Hahn, Abbey Lincoln and Jennina Mammino.

Faculty performers are violinists Lani King Chang and Eriko Sato; Elizabeth Condon, oboe; Dorothy Duncan, clarinet; Donna Elaine, flute, Laura Green, soprano; Maxine Neuman, cello; pianists Gerald Robbins, Eleonora Rotshteyn and Tomoko Uchino; and Rolf Sturm, jazz guitar. Joining the faculty are guest artists Jennina Mammino, jazz vocalist and Gary Norden, piano.

Admission to the concert is $20, $15 for seniors (60+) and free of charge for students. Tickets can be ordered by calling 914-723-1169, or e-mailing hb@hbms.org and, are available for purchase at the door. Program and performers subject to change.
