Perth Author Rachael Johns Comes To Nedlands Library

Perth author Rachael Johns will be at Nedlands Library on February 15 to talk about her latest book.

She is currently Australia's leading writer of contemporary relationship stories focusing on women's issues, a genre she has dubbed 'life-lit'.

From 10.30am-11.30am, she will discuss Lost Without You, a story of family secrets, love and regrets.

It follows four women, one wedding dress and a secret that binds them all - it's about journeys, ramifications of past decisions and the complex relationships between mothers and daughters.

On a special night supposed to be a celebration of new beginnings, Paige MacRitchie's joy quickly falls away when her mother collapses during the speeches at her book launch.

In the aftermath, and terrified of losing her, Paige decides she wants to make the ultimate tribute to her parents' perfect marriage: she will wear her mother's wedding dress for her own big day.

But there's just one problem - her mother no longer has the dress.

"The first seed of this story came when I was listening to a podcast and one of the hosts talked about selling her wedding dress to one of their listeners," Johns said.

"Another host then said they could keep passing the dress around among their listeners and it could be like The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants - only a wedding dress instead.

"I loved that idea and it set my writer's brain ticking.

"What evolved was not really anything like what I first imagined, although I did keep a fun 80s theme."

Johns' books have sold more than 200,000 copies in Australia.

Lost Without You will be available to buy at the event.
