BWW Review: GLAMOUR TANGO a Female Twist to the Sultry Dance
by Marsha Volgyi
- May 18, 2016
On May 11, 2016, The Cutting Room on East 32nd Street housed Polly Ferman's Glamour Tango. In befitting cabaret style, wining and dining were part of this evening's performance. A four-piece band would allow our ears to hear live music, which is something quite rare if not at the opera or the ballet. What piqued my interest prior was how Ms. Ferman's creation would demonstrate the tango elements without the male presence. The man seems to be an integral part of this. However I would soon be shown how the man could instead be considered a preference.

Uruguayan pianist/producer Polly Ferman is proud to present GlamourTango, a unique all-female multi-media music and dance show that pays tribute to the women who quietly wrote the pages of Tango from the very beginning and, until now, have not been recognized for their contributions to the irresistible art form. The show includes fascinating and rarely seen black and white films from Argentina, recorded in the early forties, featuring female singers and tango dancers. Polly Ferman has created and produced this stylish production of tango music and dance from South America's Rio de la Plata region, performed by an ensemble of musicians, vocalists and dancers who specialize in the art of Tango. Wednesday May 11, 7 PM, at The Cutting Room, 44 East 32 Street, NYC.
