Raleigh, N.C. -- The North Carolina Symphony will perform A BAROQUE CHRISTMAS tonight, December 4, at noon and 8 p.m., Saturday, December 5 at 8 p.m. in Raleigh's Meymandi Concert Hall, and again on Wednesday, December 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Hall on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Baltimore, MD (September 21, 2015) -- The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra today announced several orchestra personnel updates at the start of its Centennial season. The BSO's rigorous selection process draws from a national pool of exceptionally talented musicians and involves multiple rounds of auditions before a panel of peer musicians from the Orchestra and Music Director Marin Alsop. New players who join the Orchestra complete a probationary period of 16 months with the ensemble before they are granted tenure. Four new musicians, who won auditions last spring and over the summer, have been appointed to tenure track positions:

Nicholas Phan Headlines CANDIDE at Tanglewood, Set for Oregon Bach Festival and More, Summer 2014

This summer, Nicholas Phan returns to his roots, joining the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Tanglewood to sing the title role in Bernstein's Candide, the work that first inspired him to pursue a career in opera (Aug 16). In his third consecutive residency at the Oregon Bach Festival (June 26–July 10), the tenor takes part in performances of Vespers by Monteverdi and Rachmaninoff; Mozart's Requiem, led by Festival Director Emeritus Helmuth Rilling; an evening of Strauss Lieder; and after proving himself “the standout among the vocal soloists” (New York Times) in Bach's St. Matthew Passion at Carnegie Hall last month, a reconstruction of the Baroque master's St. Mark Passion. Phan also makes his Seattle Chamber Music Festival debut with Vaughan Williams and Brahms (July 18 & 21), and returns to New York's Bard Music Festival, now celebrating its 25th anniversary season, to sing Schubert in recital and with members of the American Symphony Orchestra (Aug 8 & 10).

The Cleveland Orchestra and the Cleveland Museum of Art collaborate in the presentation of California Masterworks, two intimate Cleveland Orchestra concerts at the museum featuring works by groundbreaking composers inextricably associated with California. James Feddeck, Cleveland Orchestra assistant conductor, will conduct performances Wednesday, May 1 and Friday, May 3 in the museum's Gartner Auditorium. The programs include works by John Adams, Henry Cowell, Lou Harrison, Terry Riley, James Tenney, and, in a posthumous world premiere, Dane Rudhyar. The concerts are part of the museum's VIVA! & Gala Performing Arts series, which explores extraordinary performing arts from around the world.
