Regional productions, touring shows, and more are all included in the awards, honoring productions which opened between October 1, 2017 through September 30, 2018. 'Of Mice and Men' transports us to Steinbeck's world on the Monterey Peninsula of California during the Great Depression prior to World War II.  It was (and still is) mainly an agricultural breadbasket area.  As the play opens, two of these men approach a ranch in Soledad California. They are George Milton (Jake Walker) and Lennie Small (Rusty Sneary).  George is a bright if uneducated man.  Lennie is a giant, but agonizingly slow.

Faithful to the original text, what is 175 years old is new again

It is a first ever production of a new play simply titled 'Bastard' by Kansas City playwright and artist Tyson Schroeder presented at the tiny studio theater on the third level of The Living Room Theatre in the Crossroads area. Directed by Living Room co-founder Shawnna Jouragan, 'Bastard' is a screed on the tyranny of making art and the superficiality of those who pretend to appreciate it.

This cathodically dark and surreal piece combines theatre with visual art as it tells the tale of an artist torn by two defining parts of himself.

'The Ballad of Lefty and Crabbe' sparkles as a completely home- grown, home- performed, home-produced and expanded reboot to the 2015 Fringe Festival hit now enjoying its world premiere at The Living Room Theatre in the Kansas City Crossroads District through June 18. 'Lefty and Crabbe' has matured and ripened on the vine and is now most definitely ready for prime time.

Tech aspects first class... story too complex

The 34th production of A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens and adapted by Barbara Fields, opened on Saturday November 29 at the Spencer Theatre in Kansas City, Missouri. The KC Rep continues its 50th anniversary with the magnificent production of the holiday classic, which has been seen by more than a half million patrons since 1981. The KC Rep serves more than 12,000 schoolchildren annually.
