BWW Reviews: Dazzling Production of THE LION KING at the Fox
by Chris Gibson
- Aug 22, 2012
Translating an animated feature to the musical stage is a daunting challenge. Really, any film, even with actors who are drawn onto cells, usually makes a rocky transition. That's what makes THE LION KING so disarming and dazzling in its conception and execution. The techniques and ideas pioneered here in the Tony Award-winning show have since been used elsewhere, but they still manage to excite and enthrall an audience, and that's a credit to all the skilled technicians and actors who make these characters come to life. The current production playing the Fox is a magical ride that must be taken, and it's easily an "E" ticket (if you remember those days at the Disney fun parks).

The 'savagely entertaining' (Variety) God of Carnage now runs through April 17 with its ensemble cast of four intact. When Alan (David Pasquesi) and Annette (Beth Lacke)'s son hits Michael (Keith Kupferer) and Veronica (Mary Beth Fisher)'s son with a stick, the two couples meet to discuss the problem over clafouti and coffee. What starts as a civilized get-together quickly devolves into a riotous evening that The New Yorker calls 'ninety minutes of sustained mayhem.' God of Carnage earned critical acclaim in London and on Broadway earning the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy and three Tony Awards, including Best Play. Allstate is the Lead Corporate Sponsor for God of Carnage and Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP and Fifth Third Bank are the Corporate Sponsor Partners.
