Oggi nel 1962, RUGANTINO debuttava al Teatro Sistina di Roma. RUGANTINO, insieme ad AGGIUNGI UN POSTO A TAVOLA, è una delle commedie musicali più apprezzate del repertorio G&G. Le musiche sono del M° Armando Trovajoli mentre il testo porta le firme di Pietro Garinei, Sandro Giovannini, Pasquale Festa Campanile, Massimo Franciosa e Luigi Magni. Il cast della produzione originale vedeva Nino Manfredi nei panni del mascalzone Rugantino, il compianto Aldo Fabrizi in quelli di Mastro Titta, Lea Massari nel ruolo di Rosetta e Bice Valori in quello di Eusebia. Scene e costumi erano del grande Giulio Coltellacci e le coreografie di Dania Krupska (sostituita per la seconda edizione da Gino Landi).
