After more than 50 years, Michigan Opera Theatre is changing its name: in tandem with a return to the Detroit Opera House for the April 2 premiere of La bohème, the company will be known as Detroit Opera.

Boston Baroque concludes its 2021-2022 season with two programs in March and April. First, Boston Baroque presents Vivaldi’s Gloria, a beloved choral work brought to life by Boston Baroque’s chorus, alongside Handel’s stunning Ode for St. Cecilia’s Day featuring soloists Elena Villalón and Rufus Müller. Finally, the season comes to a close with a return to a much-anticipated annual staged opera performance of Handel’s Amadigi di Gaula featuring Anthony Roth Costanzo, Daniela Mack, Camille Ortiz, and Amanda Forsythe.
Michigan Opera Theatre Receives $5 Million Grant From the William Davidson Foundation

At its Annual Meeting on November 18, 2021, Michigan Opera Theatre (MOT), in partnership with the William Davidson Foundation, announced that the Foundation has awarded a $5,000,000 grant to support critical infrastructure renovations at the historic Detroit Opera House (DOH) and artistic programming over two seasons.

The Metropolitan Opera announced today that Anthony Davis's X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X will have its company premiere on November 3, 2023, making it the second opera by a Black composer in Met history, after Terence Blanchard's Fire Shut Up in My Bones. Playwright and director Robert O'Hara, who received a Tony Award nomination for his direction of Slave Play in 2020, creates the new production, which stars baritone Will Liverman in the title role.
