Just in time for Halloween, Strawdog Theatre Company launches its 31st season with the world premiere of MASQUE MACABRE, a dark and bloody thrill ride inspired by the works of Edgar Allan Poe - think Carrie meets Eyes Wide Shut. The handlers of a 'bad boy' entrepreneur go to extremes to give him one last big bash before his past catches up to him. An explorative immersive theatre experience a la Sleep No More, guests travel from room to room throughout the space and follow stories of revenge and murder as they play out in real time.

HOWARDS END, AMERICA To Premiere In February At Z Space In San Francisco

San Francisco's Earplay in co-production with RealOpera announces the world premiere of a major new chamber opera in three acts, HOWARDS END, AMERICA by composer Allen Shearer and librettist Claudia Stevens. Based on E. M. Forster's Howards End, the production at San Francisco's Z Space is set for three performances only, Feb 22-24, 2019. A pre-show discussion with celebrity guests is scheduled for opening night.

Opera San José Presents Mozart's THE ABDUCTION FROM THE SERAGLIO

On September 15th, Opera San Jose's 35th season opens with Mozart's comedy The Abduction from the Seraglio. The opera was commissioned by Emperor Joseph II, and as the myth goes when he first heard it, he complained to Mozart, 'That is too fine for my ears - there are too many notes.' Mozart replied, 'There are just as many notes as there should be.'

Strawdog Theatre Company and Artistic Directors Michael Dailey, Heath Hays and Anderson Lawfer are proud to announce the company's 31st Season, "Bravery."  The 2018 - 2019 season includes: Masque Macabre, October 4 - 31, a world premiere immersive theatrical experience based on the stories of Edgar Allan Poe, adapted by ensemble members Aly Greaves Amidei, John Henry Roberts and company member Cara Beth Heath; The Revolutionists, November 15 - December 29, by Lauren Gunderson, which explores the role of artist during the French Revolution; Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins by Jacob Combs and Michael Dailey, December 1 - January 5, 2019, an original musical adaptation of Eric Kimmel's Caldecott Award-winning children's book; and Take Me, a world premiere musical by Mark Guarino and Jon Langford of The Mekons and The Waco Brothers, May 10 - June 22, 2019.

Opera San José (OSJ) continues its season with Gioachino Rossini's The Italian Girl in Algiers. This sparkling and fast-paced opera weaves a madcap story full of twists and turns into a comic adventure to a land of magnificent palaces, swashbuckling pirates and lavish harems. The Italian Girl in Algiers will be sung in Italian with English supertitles. Six performances are scheduled from November 15 through 30 at the California Theatre, 345 South First Street in downtown San José.

Strawdog and Victory Gardens' Crip Slam to Present Fully Accessible Performance of MISS MARX: OR THE INVOLUNTARY SIDE EFFECT OF LIVING, 3/13

Strawdog Theatre Company and Interim Artistic Director Hank Boland and Crip Slam, part of Victory Gardens Access Project, announce a fully accessible performance of the world premiere of Philip Dawkins' Miss Marx: or The Involuntary Side Effect of Living directed by Megan Shuchman, Thursday, March 13 at 8 p.m. at Victory Gardens Biograph Theater, in the Prince Charitable Trust Rehearsal Room, 2433 N. Lincoln Ave. This performance will be fully wheelchair accessible. Audio description, open captioning and a touch tour of elements from the production will also be provided. Immediately following that night's performance there will be a post show talk back with the playwright and director. This performance is pay what you can at the door with reservations requested. Reservations may be made at boxoffice@strawdog.org or 773.528.9696. In addition to the Victory Garden performance, an ASL performance is scheduled for Saturday, March 16 at 4 p.m. at Strawdog Theatre. The performance schedule for the production running through April 5 at Strawdog Theatre, 3829 N. Broadway St., is Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 4 p.m. Single Tickets are $28 and are currently on sale.
