Great opera and theater continue to be broadcast on their big screen, with HD screenings of dynamic performances from The Met Opera and National Theatre of London. Coming up next from The MET Opera Encore in HD on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at 12:30pm is the world-premiere production of Pulitzer Prize–winning composer Kevin Puts's The Hours, adapted from Michael Cunningham's acclaimed novel.

The Met gave birth to a fascinating new opera on Tuesday and it wasn’t a moment too soon to unleash composer Kevin Puts’s THE HOURS on an audience that sometimes seems doomed to die inundated by too many AIDAs, BOHEMEs and CARMENs. The world premiere production of THE HOURS by Puts and Greg Pierce was directed by Phelim McDermott. The cast was a starry one, led by soprano Renee Fleming, soprano Kelli O’Hara and mezzo Joyce DiDonato.

This announcement follows news of Fleming’s nomination last week for a 2023 Grammy Award for Best Classical Solo Vocal Album, for her previous Decca release Voice of Nature: the Anthropocene, and it comes as Fleming takes the stage at the Met again tonight (November 22) in the star-studded world premiere production of Kevin Puts's opera The Hours.
