The Gravity Players present an encore performance of THE LAST DAYS OF JUDAS ISCARIOT, where the courtroom is in purgatory, the special witnesses include Mother Teresa and the Devil, and the defendant is Judas Iscariot.

On Friday night The Gravity Players opened a courtroom comedy and exploration of faith, THE LAST DAYS OF JUDAS ISCARIOT, to a lively audience. Set in the Court of Purgatory, a place of redemption and a 'waiting list' between Heaven and Hell, the audience was to witness trials regarding sinners' placement in Purgatory, as many desired to appeal their judgment to move on to Heaven. Judge Littlefield, played by Paul Menzel, demands Bailiff (Philip Hays) to call the cases, 'God and the Kingdom of Heaven and Earth versus Thorseen the Implacable', 'God and the Kingdom of Heaven and Earth versus Benedict Arnold', and finally 'God and the Kingdom of Heaven and Earth versus Judas Iscariot'.

What has become of Jesus' most notorious follower? In this dark comedy, time and space bend in a provocatively poignant quest to decide Judas' fate. Set in a courtroom in Purgatory, an uproarious cast of characters from Heaven and Hell swarm the stage to determine whether he has any grounds for redemption.

There's no doubt that Obsidian Theater's THE MOTHERF*#CKER WITH THE HAT wins the award for most attention-grabbing title of the season, but does James Belcher's production live up to the promise of that title? Is it as honest and unapologetically in-your-face as that title would have you believe? Why yes, it is.

This is the first installment of a two-part profile on actress, producer, director, and filmmaker Courtney Lomelo.

There has never been a funnier tragedy than The Mofo with the Hat. Some may call this a dark comedy, but the humor here is so wonderfully and naturally integrated that the laughs come freely. At its core, this play is, surprisingly, a love story. It revolves around people thrown apart by lies and abuse issues, who just happen to have the most furiously colorful use of language. It's as heart-wrenching as it is side-splitting.

It's charmingly adolescent, and full of cock and pecker jokes which feature prominently in this lark of a piece. Who knew Greek comedy could be so broad and bawdy?

Walking up to this warehouse building in the downtown area I was excited. Was I in the East Village seeing a production at La MaMa, or I was in the Bayou City seeing The Stark Naked Theatre Company's production of A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM? From the rugged factory exterior of the venue to the perfectly designed industrial theatre space I was in artistic heaven.

'Sex joke. Sex joke. Sex joke. Sex joke. Profound philosophical statement. Sex joke. Sex joke. Sex joke. Marriage.'

Stark Naked Theatre Company continues its fourth season with a compelling production of one of William Shakespeare's most beloved plays, A Midsummer Night's Dream. Co-directed by Philip Lehl and Kim Tobin-Lehl, and produced in collaboration with the University of Houston, A Midsummer Night's Dream previews on March 5th, opens on March 6th, and runs through March 21st at STUDIO 101.
