San Francisco Opera announced today repertory, casting and reopening plans for its 99th season. Commencing with a performance of Giacomo Puccini’s Tosca on Saturday, August 21, the 2021–22 Season marks the inauguration of Eun Sun Kim’s tenure as Caroline H. Hume Music Director and a reemergence of opera at the War Memorial Opera House.

The success of his first two contributions to the genre, Gesualdo and Charlotte Salomon, established Marc-André Dalbavie as one of the most prominent new voices in contemporary opera.

Have you watched Los Angeles Opera’s digital short Brown Sounds yet? Brown Sounds celebrates Black history by beginning with the Garden of Eden. Conceived by Raehann Bryce-Davis, a rising star in the LA firmament, it's a stunning vocal piece. Composer Ayanna Witter-Johnson set poet Henry Dumas's evocative verses to music with Bryce-Davis’s ravishing mezzo-soprano in mind.

The schedule includes a week entitled From Page to Stage, featuring operas based on works by some of history’s great writers, and a week of fairy-tale operas entitled Once Upon a Time. The 1987 telecast of Puccini’s Turandot, with Eva Marton, Leona Mitchell, Plácido Domingo, and Paul Plishka, will be streamed for the first time on April 17.

Wagner’s Siegfried is online from San Francisco Opera on March 20 and 21, 2021. Siegfried, a warrior without fear comes of age and prepares for battle in the third opera of Richard Wagner’s Ring Cycle. Tenor Daniel Brenna stars as the Siegfried, the son of Siegmund and Sieglinde who was born to retrieve the almighty ring of power from the dragon.

Uniquely focused on both the baroque and the brand new, Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra & Chorale (PBO) announces the appointment of TARIK O'REGAN as the 40-year old organization's first-ever Composer-in-Residence. 

The most ambitious operatic commission to emerge from the global pandemic, the Decameron Opera Coalition's Tales from a Safe Distance has been invited into the Library of Congress' Performing Arts Covid-19 Response Collection.

The unforgettable world of Ellen Reid’s      p  r  i  s  m returns to LA Opera for two weeks. This time, the Pulitzer Prize-winning piece is streaming on your home screen.  Composer Reid and librettist Roxie Perkins' sobering story follows a mother and daughter as they explore the trauma of sexual abuse and the elasticity of memory that follows.

The Vienna State Opera - under the musical direction of Rossini specialist Jean-Christophe Spinosi - is showing the colorful and entertaining production from 2013 in the stream, with singers including Isabel Leonard (Angelina), Maxim Mironov (Don Ramiro) and Luca Pisaroni ( Alidoro).

Wiener Staatsoper has announced further dates of their streaming schedule. They have brought together their very current productions including Eugen Onegin or Cavalleria rusticana / Pagliacci with highlights from their archive.
