Center Stage has announced it has chosen The Thanksgiving Play by award-winning playwright, director, choreographer and performer Larissa FastHorse as its Fall Play Lab to begin the 2016/17 Season. The Play Lab will be held September 16-18 at Lord Baltimore Hotel.

Artists Repertory Theatre begins its 2016/17 season with TREVOR, a tragicomedy from Orange Is the New Black writer, Nick Jones. The play features John San Nicolas as the chimp, Trevor, and Sarah Lucht as his "mom," Sandra. This is the first play of seven in Artists Rep's 34th season.

PA'I Foundation, in association with Kumu Kahua Theatre, presents a 3-day Playwriting Workshop for island writers, with Native American playwrights Larissa FastHorse and Ty Defoe. The workshop ? designed to serve writers of all levels, from novice to experienced ? will focus on jump-starting the writing process, exercises for the imagination, writing from your cultural perspective, and practical tips for completing and developing your work. Artists Repertory Theatre launches the final phase of awarding the Oregon Play Prize today by inviting the public to choose the winning script by open vote. From 131 plays submitted since November, the public will choose which of three finalists to  they want to see Artists Rep develop and produce. The voting poll, descriptions and samples of the finalist plays are posted on the Oregon Play Prize webpage.  The plays will be voted on by merit of the script and voter interest alone; to this end the playwrights' names are not included.  Voting begins immediately and will end on September 15. The Oregon Play Prize winner will be announced on September 21, 2016.

As part of the kick-off event for the 2016 Kennedy Center (KC) American College Theater Festival, a special preview of the EVERY 28 HOURS PLAYS will be performed and livestreamed as part of KC's Millennium Stage Series. The preview consists of an excerpt of the collection with more than 30 one-minute plays inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, with participation by theater makers and institutions across the nation and showcases the creative outcome of a community outreach residency in Ferguson and St. Louis County, Missouri in the fall of 2015.
