Photo Flash: Portland Center Stage Presents MISS BENNET: CHRISTMAS AT PEMBERLEY
by A.A. Cristi - Nov 15, 2019

Artistic Director Marissa Wolf makes her Portland Center Stage at The Armory directing debut with Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley, a delightful Jane Austen-inspired comedy from playwrights Lauren Gunderson and Margot Melcon. Portland favorite Lauren Modica (Bedlam's Sense and Sensibility and Twist Your Dickens at The Armory) will star as middle sister Mary Bennet, who takes center stage in this charming and clever sequel to Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. When the Bennet sisters gather at the home of Lizzy and Darcy for the holidays, an unexpected guest sparks brilliant, bookish Mary's hopes for independence, an intellectual match, and perhaps even romance.

Sarah DeLappe's The Wolves is a portrait of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for nine American girls who just want to score some goals.

BWW Review: INTO THE WOODS Is Everything You Could Wish For, at Broadway Rose
by Krista Garver - Jun 5, 2019

INTO THE WOODS features a combination of a stripped-down musical score, movement-focused direction, and the strongest cast that Broadway Rose has ever assembled.

BWW Review: TEENAGE DICK, at Artists Rep, Explores Social Dynamics in One of World's Harshest Environments: High School
by Krista Garver - Jan 18, 2019

TEENAGE DICK is a high school adaptation of Shakespeare's Richard III, a play about lust for power and revenge written during a time when a physical disability was thought to indicate a moral failing. There's a lot to unpack here, so to get straight to the point: Don't let the fact that it's set in high school scare you. Artists Rep's production of this play, which was a 2018 NYC Critic's Pick, is very much worth a watch.

BWW Review: Isaac Lamb Directs Extraordinary ORDINARY DAYS, at Broadway Rose
by Krista Garver - Sep 27, 2018

ORDINARY DAYS is a small musical -- four people, not much dialogue, a single piano, a sparse set -- but it's precisely this simplicity that allows the big picture to emerge. And that picture is extraordinary.
