It is a classic novel, but it is so much more to those of us who have read it and absorbed its intensity, integrity, and challenge to evaluate our own biases. As it finds new life as a play, we had the privilege of speaking with Justin Mark who plays Jem in the current touring production. He gave us insight into his process and the ways this story still resonates with a modern audience.

BWW Review: THE AGITATORS: Susan B. Anthony & Frederick Douglass at The Forum Theatre
by Paula Makar - May 26, 2021

This is the first time I’ve sat in a theatre since COVID19 took that privilege away in March 2020. It felt weird and wonderful all at the same time. Masks are optional at the Forum Theatre. Patrons I chatted with in the lobby were thrilled to finally get out and are feeling confident enough to spend a few hours communing in a darkened room with their fellow man. This is the perfect play to do just that. The Agitators answers the dramaturgical question, “Why this play, now?” Poignant, compelling, and beautifully wrought by the cast and crew, The Agitator is must see theatre.

Collision Project Will Examine John Lewis' MARCH
by A.A. Cristi - Jun 26, 2017

The Alliance Theatre has assembled a diverse group of 21 students for the 16th Palefsky Collision Project, an annual program that gives high-school students a platform to tackle important social issues.  Guided by the Alliance's Mellon Playwright in Residence Pearl Cleage, director Patrick McColery, and assistant director Rodney Williams, participants are encouraged to find and claim their own voices within a judgment free zone of creativity and community. This innovative program challenges metro Atlanta teens to 'collide' with a classic text and make it their own.  This year's catalytic text will be Congressman John Lewis's graphic novel March.  As a young student activist, Congressman Lewis was inspired by the 1958 comic book Martin Luther King and the Montgomery Story.  Now he brings the Civil Rights Movement to life for a whole new generation.
