Dixon Place Announces HOT! NYC Celebration of Queer Culture Highlights

Hailed as "The best LBGTQ Theater Festival in New York" by The Village Voice, HOT! The NYC Celebration of Queer Culture returns to Dixon Place for its 27th season. The oldest festival of its kind in the world, HOT showcases over 100 artists' most daring new work in theatre, dance, music, puppetry, literature, visual arts, and homoeroticism for the whole family! Karen Finley to Perform in Steppenwolf's LOOKOUT SERIES 2/10

This February, Steppenwolf Theatre Company's LookOut Series, a multi-genre performance series, presents two engagements written and performed by renowned performance artist and Chicago native, Karen Finley. Written in Sand: Collected AIDS Writings, a solo spoken word performance, runs Friday February 10 and Saturday February 11 at 8pm; and Unicorn Gratitude Mystery runs Friday, February 17 and Saturday, February 18 at 8pm (doors open at 7:30pm, general seating). Both engagements take place in Steppenwolf's 1700 Theatre, an intimate cabaret-style venue connected to Front Bar: Coffee and Drinks at 1700 N Halsted St. Tickets to Written in Sand and Unicorn Gratitude Mystery are $25 and can be purchased atsteppenwolf.org or 312-335-1650.

Steppenwolf Theatre Company announces the 2016/17 winter lineup for LookOut, the company's multi-genre performance series featuring a diverse array of work from both emerging and established artists. LookOut programming takes place in Steppenwolf's 1700 Theatre, an 80-seat cabaret-style space connected to Steppenwolf's own Front Bar: Coffee and Drinks at 1700 N Halsted St. Guests can take drinks into the theater. Every Friday a different DJ spins in Front Bar before the performance.

"War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery and Ignorance is Strength."  Greenway Arts Alliance Presents: George Orwell's 1984, directed by Kate Jopson as the first production of their novel to stage program Greenway Reads. 300 Fairfax High School students are reading the novel and will attend matinee's of the theatrical production. The adaptation by Alan Lyddiard creates an interactive and engaging experience for audience members. Jopson said, "We're trying to create an immersive experience. The elements of the play and its themes are all around us in the real world. We try to emphasize that and as soon as you arrive at the theater there's not anywhere you're not in the set of 1984, even in the lobby and bathrooms."

In celebration of its 30th anniversary, Grand Performances, the "Best Free Outdoor Summer Concert Series" in Los Angeles, will hold a benefit concert by "Orange Is the New Black" star Lea DeLaria and the Los Angeles premiere of Lea DeLaria: House of David, her jazz-influenced tribute to David Bowie.
