BWW Review: THE NIGHT OF THE IGUANA Kicks Off The Gamm's New Season
by Andria Tieman
- Oct 17, 2018
THE NIGHT OF THE IGUANA is among Tennessee Williams' least-know plays, but still one that resulted in over 300 performances on Broadway and a 1964 film version starring Richard Burton and directed by John Huston. Unlike Williams' more famous works, it's likely that audiences don't know much about this play going into it, and while there are some interesting characters and poignant lines, it becomes easy to see why this play is not often produced. The double whammy of a tedious and heavy-handed script paired with performances that beg for more nuance leave this first production in The Gamm's new Warwick location an unfortunate slog.

by Veronica Bruscini
- Sep 19, 2017
Pawtucket's Gamm Theatre opens its season with Oscar Wilde's comedic masterwork THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, and the company delivers an utterly superlative production. Everything about this EARNEST is absolutely right in every way. The Gamm's cast is magnificent, the stagecraft of the finest quality, and the direction flawless. If there is one theatrical experience not to be missed in Rhode Island this year, the Gamm's EARNEST is it.

BWW Review: The Gamm's Ambitious but Inconsistent ARCADIA
by Andria Tieman
- Sep 26, 2016
Arcadia is considered by many to be one of the best plays in the English language and it manages to walk the line between humor and tragedy very well all while maintaining delightful and rapid reversals of fortune punctuated by moments of real insight. It's interesting to watch a play that is at its core about research and learning, but still come away entertained rather than feeling lectured to. The Gamm has done admirably taking on this potentially daunting work, and though there are a few hiccups and missteps, the overall production is well executed and thought-provoking.
BWW Reviews: The Gamm's Sublime THE HOUSE OF BLUE LEAVES Surprises in Many Ways
by Robert Barossi
- Mar 12, 2015
There are some plays that are easily categorized. They fit a very specific label, nice and neat and tidy. Hamlet is a tragedy. Noises Off is a comedy. There's little room for doubt or debate. On the other hand, some plays defy definition. They challenge you to put them into a category or give them a label. When that happens, you can sometimes get a muddled, confused mess that never really works. Or, as in the case of The House of Blue Leaves, currently playing at the Gamm Theatre, you get an exciting and entertaining piece of theater that surprises in part because of just how well it works.
Gamm Theatre Presents THE HOUSE OF BLUE LEAVES, Now thru 4/5
by BWW News Desk
- Mar 5, 2015
The Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre (The Gamm) continues its 30th anniversary season with American playwright John Guare's dark comedy The House of Blue Leaves. This multi-award-winning piece of comic chaos by the author of Six Degrees of Separation is the story of a family so obsessed with fame and the American Dream that its members are incapable of connecting with each other. Fred Sullivan, Jr. directs a crazy cast of characters including a zoo-keeper who aspires to be a songwriter (Tom Gleadow) and his wife who won't leave the house (Jeanine Kane) in a production that is by turns laughable, thought-provoking and deeply moving.
