PROTOTYPE, CULTUREMART, et al. Fatured in HERE's 20th Season

HERE proudly announces its 20th Anniversary Season, spanning September 2012 through June 2013, featuring three world premieres from Resident Artists in the HERE Artist Residency Program (HARP); two co-productions delivering hybrid performing arts premieres; the launch of PROTOTYPE: Opera/Theatre Now, an annual festival; and HERE's yearly CULTUREMART festival which gives audiences a first look at new work from HERE Resident Artists. Works include groundbreaking multidisciplinary productions from HARP Artists, representing the culmination of commissions and developmental residencies of up to three years, as well as presentations by visiting artists, curated by HERE, as part of HERE's various programs including the Dream Music Puppetry Program and much more.

Culture Project's Women Center Stage 2012 Festival to Present the World Premiere of SWELL, 3/15-4/6

Culture Project (Allan Buchman, Artistic Director) will present Women Center Stage 2012 Festival beginning March 8 and continuing through April 7 at The Living Theatre (21 Clinton Street at East Houston Street). A highlight of the Festival will be Swell, a theatrical adaptation of the graphic novel adapted by Juliacks, Kathleen Amshoff, and the company, having its World Premiere. The production will combine the novel's narrative with sound, video, architecture, and performance art, resulting in a 'spectacular, character-driven reflection of loss.'

StreetSigns Presents 'Acts of Witness' at The ArtsCenter, 3/2-20

In honor of Tony Award-winning playwright Athol Fugard's visit to UNC, StreetSigns presents ACTS OF WITNESS, two theatrical events in rotating rep, featuring Athol Fugard's BLOOD KNOT directed by Joseph Megel and POETIC PORTRAITS OF A REVOLUTION created by Kane Smego, Will McInerney, Mohammad Moussa and Sameer Abdel-khalek.

The OBIE-winning HERE announced the line-up for its annual CULTUREMART festival, this year running January 24 - February 11. CULTUREMART makes process the focus, presenting work in various stages of development from the boundary-breaking artists in the HERE Artist Residency Program (HARP). CULTUREMART provides a platform for HARP artists to blur the lines between dance, theatre, music, multimedia, puppetry and visual art, on their journey to mainstage productions. CULTUREMART 2012 features 12 workshop performances spanning topics as varied as civic engagement, human error, music of the spheres, war gaming and everything in between.

Following a successful run at Georgetown University, GU's Theater and Performance Studies Program and Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater present Tennessee Williams' most autobiographical work The Glass Menagerie in conjunction with The Glass Menagerie Project.

New Georges (Susan Bernfield, Artistic Director; Sarah Cameron Sunde, Associate Director; Jaynie Saunders Tiller, Managing Director), the OBIE Award-winning downtown theater company founded in 1992, will present 'THE GERM PROJECT,' featuring the work of playwrights Kara Lee Corthron (directed by Kara-Lynn Vaeni), Lynn Rosen (directed by Shoshana Gold), Kathryn Walat (directed by Portia Krieger), and Anna Ziegler (directed by Beatrice Terry). The four 'germs' of full-length plays of scope and adventure commissioned by New Georges for this project will be presented together, fully produced, in a cohesive and satisfying ninety-minute intermission-less evening. There will be a connective thread to the pieces that will take place with visuals and storytelling. 'THE GERM PROJECT' will be performed at 3LD Art & Technology Center, 80 Greenwich Street (just south of Rector). Previews will begin on June 11, and the official Opening Night will be Monday, June 20 at 8:00 p.m. Performances will run through July 9.

Told through monologue, song, poetry, and multimedia, this autobiographical piece by performance poet/playwright Al Letson challenges perceptions about race and class, as he recounts his struggles to connect with the disadvantaged children of the Sanctuary in Jacksonville, Florida. Summer In Sanctuary will take you into the heart of a community and leave you with a better understanding of the world. Rob Urbinati, who helmed Foggy Bottom and The President and Her Mistress in our 2006/2007 season, is back to direct this funny, poignant, and ultimately inspiring piece of distinctly American theater.

SSPY GARBO Plays 3LD, Closes 4/10

Affinity Company Theater and 3-Legged Dog will present the world premiere of Sheila Schwartz's 'SPY GARBO,' directed by Kevin Cunningham, in a multi-media production.
