This year's New York Comic Con hosted a panel featuring cast members and creatives from The Lightning Thief! The panel, titled 'The World of Percy Jackson: From Page to Stage,' was held Thursday, October 3, at 2:45pm in the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, Room 1A06.

Due to popular demand from family audiences, the producers of The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical have announced a new performance schedule that will take effect the week of November 4 at the Longacre Theatre (220 W. 48th Street) through the end of the show's strictly limited 16-week holiday engagement. How much one enjoys THE LIGHTNING THIEF, The Percy Jackson Musical, currently at the Huntington Theatre Company in Boston through July 28, may correlate directly with one's familiarity with the source material. On opening night, the large number of teens and tweens in the audience - who were clearly anticipating the appearance of every monster, plot twist and special effect - were laughing, cheering and clapping with unbridled vigor. However, the adults whom I queried at intermission, who had no such prior exposure to the immensely popular Rick Riordan children's book series that mashes up teen angst with Greek mythology, were considerably less enthralled.

The Lightning Thief musical, based on Rick Riordan's book, has been called a cross between Harry Potter and Dear Evan Hansen, which may be one of the reasons why legions of fans are flocking to see the show as it makes away across the country. Initially developed as a one-hour musical in 2014 by Theatreworks USA, a full-length expanded version opened at The Lucille Lortel Theatre in 2017 for a limited run and was nominated for three Drama Desk Awards. Earlier this year, the show launched a national tour. The tour will stop at the Durham Performing Arts Center this week. 'It's a wonderful experience because it stays so true to the book, which is the biggest thing for me and what most fans who come to see the show appreciate,' says Izzy Figueroa. 'It doesn't fall far at all from what you've already read.'
