Playwrights Foundation, the West Coast's premiere launchpad for exceptional plays and playwrights announces the lineup for the 2020 Bay Area Playwrights Festival.

The Ojai Playwrights Conference is coming to Los Angeles for the first time with a benefit celebration, a?oeImagining America,a?? to take place on Saturday, May 2, 2020, at the Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City. 

Bay Area natives and provocateurs, Culture Clash, return to Berkeley Rep with their latest production, Culture Clash (Still) in America. The play, written and performed by Culture Clash and directed by Obie Award winner Lisa Peterson, marks the fifth time the satirical group has performed at Berkeley Rep.

THE GREEN ROOM 42, Broadway's newest Cabaret Club, presents Celeste Lanuza Y La Familia in Songs from the Musical: The Desert Rose on March 1st. Celeste Lanuza (NPR Tiny Desk Ft. On Sunday afternoon, Long Beach Opera (LBO) presented the world premiere of its adaptation of Henry Purcell's semi-opera King Arthur at the Beverly O'Neill Theater. A semi-opera refers to a Restoration entertainment that combines a spoken play with musical episodes that involvolomot, Darryl Taylor, e singing and dancing. Purcell's best known semi-operas are King Arthur and The Fairy-Queen. LBO presented its version of the latter in 2017.

New Village Arts announces its third annual New Play Festival, FINAL DRAFT, scheduled for January 10 - 12, 2020. This year's festival will feature plays by local playwrights Morgan Trant Kinally, Tom Steward, Roy Sekigahama, and Cynthia Ochoa. Selections were decided from an open submission pool of over 250 new plays and musicals and a five-person readership panel.

Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater announces the company for A Thousand Splendid Suns, adapted for the stage by Ursula Rani Sarma and based on the 2007 New York Times bestselling novel by Khaled Hosseini (Kite Runner). Set in 1992 in war-torn Afghanistan, this gripping story centers around a friendship that develops between two Afghan women following a tragedy. While facing insurmountable odds of a brutal and oppressive way of life, the two form an unlikely bond in a heart-rending fight for survival. Directed by Carey Perloff, A Thousand Splendid Suns runs January 17 - March 1, 2020 in the Kreeger Theater.

San Diego Repertory Theatre (San Diego REP) announced today the cast and creative team for The Humans, winner of the 2016 Tony Award for Best Play. The production, written by Stephen Karam and directed by REP Associate Artistic Director Todd Salovey, will run January 9 - February 2, 2020, in San Diego REP's Lyceum Space Theatre, with previews January 9 - 14 and press opening on Wednesday, January 15 at 7:00 p.m.

Playwrights Foundation announces the appointment of Jessica Bird Beza as Executive Artistic Director for the 43 year-old San Francisco Bay Area arts organization. She brings a range of executive and artistic experience to the position, including serving in leadership roles with The Old Globe, La Jolla Playhouse and Mo'olelo Performing Arts Company, producing three different new play festivals and directing at San Diego REP, La Jolla Playhouse and Theatreworks Silicon Valley.
