BWW REVIEW: FUN HOME Tour Is Sharply Drawn
by Jan Nargi
- Oct 24, 2017
The national tour of the Tony Award-winning musical FUN HOME has landed in Boston and it's as sharply drawn and richly performed as its highly acclaimed Broadway predecessor. Once again mounted on a proscenium stage (it played in the round at Circle in the Square following its original Off-Broadway run at the Public Theatre), FUN HOME loses none of its laser focus as it shines a loving but bittersweet light on the family of a lesbian cartoonist whose memories spring to life from the pages of her latest graphic novel.
BWW Review: FUN HOME Makes a Powerful Statement at TPAC
by Cillea Houghton
- Oct 12, 2017
While most Broadway shows pack a powerful punch, FUN HOME accomplishes that by capturing the viewer's heart, whether gently plucking at one's heartstrings or tugging with all its might, and its opening night in Nashville at TPAC's Andrew Jackson Hall offered viewers a bevy of emotion.

BWW Review: FUN HOME at Winspear Opera House
by Samuel Weber

Fun Home will always have a special place in my heart. The score and source material are some of the most thoughtful work on the stage in recent years - not to mention the innovation of the Broadway staging. Needless to say, I was curious how well the show would lend itself to tour, perhaps even a bit wary. And yet, with all my expectations, the Fun Home tour indeed made me want to play airplane.
BWW Review: Beautifully Poignant FUN HOME Tour Moves Into OC's Segerstrom Center
by Michael Quintos
- Aug 4, 2017
Riveting, powerful and beautifully poignant at every step, FUN HOME—the Tony Award-winning musical based on Alison Bechdel's 2006 autobiographical graphic memoir—is one of those rare, great stage musicals that represents an astonishingly unique point-of-view that is somehow miraculously universal and inclusive at the same time. Armed with a moving, deeply personal story that's filled with heartache and heartbreak, yet with still plenty of room to be profoundly heartwarming, the musical's truly excellent national tour production continues performances at Orange County's Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa through August 6.

BWW Review: Gripping and Beautiful FUN HOME at the 5th Avenue
by Jay Irwin

It's not a revival of an old classic. It doesn't have the cache of a recognizable movie title. And it's got a synopsis that may make some people weary. All of these reasons could be why there were far too many empty seats at last night's opening night of "Fun Home" at the 5th Avenue. And that fact of the open seats makes me incredibly sad as this Tony Winner for Best Musical deserves so much more attention as it's one of the most honest, raw and real musicals around today. I cannot urge you enough to see this show.

You can find an abundance of gay jokes in any musical or play, but FUN HOME is one of the few musicals that actually revolve around characters being gay and discovering that world.

It's a deeply emotional musical telling the story of a lesbian girl as she navigates her way through life with a closeted gay father. The Broadway Production won the Tony in 2015 for Best Musical as well as top honors for its book and score. It is a handsome show, acted expertly, and it will move anyone lucky enough to connect with its take on what it is like to be queer in the world.
